    Getting The Band together!

Over the weekend for Woodsball World Cup, something amazing happened. A group of guys you may or may not know, got together to play a sport they helped pioneer here and there. I thought it was super cool to see these guys all come together and just play the game for what it was originally meant, FUN. They got The Band together just for a weekend of friends and good times.

For those that don't recognize these individuals The Band consisted of Bud Orr, Fred Schultz, William Bailey, Andrew Starrett, Rene Boucher, Kenneth Haggard, Dan Colby, Charles Holton, David Bell, Mean Gene, Thomas Ghee, David Rudig and Tim Schloss.

Figured you guys would get a kick out of it like I did.

Oh! And here's an interview between Bud Orr and Tom Kaye.

It was Awesome watching them play! My team didn’t get to play them unfortunately. But it was really cool seeing that history hit the field again.

Is anyone willing to put it together a list of what each of them is responsible for? I recognize most of the names I just don't know the back stories

Fred Schultz played on Constant Pursuit. See my comment to Jordan below.

For those of us who don't know, like me... mind putting some background behind names? I know who Tom and Bud are, but that's it.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

Fred Schultz was the captain of a west coast team called Constant Pursuit that existed from around the late 80s through at least the mid to late 90s. He was really big on being an ambassador for the sport and was always showing up in news interviews or as an emcee at various paintball events, often in a tigerstripe camo tuxedo jacket. He helped organize this crazy exhibition game at Disney (forget whether Disneyland in California or Disneyworld in Florida) in which they netted off a chunk of Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom and played paintball in front of all the park goers. These days he does a podcast/livestream you can find on Facebook under the name Flag Pull Productions. He had kind of disappeared from the paintball world by the early 2000s until his sudden reemergence within the last 2-3 years. Over at automags.org, Tom Kaye had posted this long article back around 2003 or so about all of Fred's efforts on behalf of the sport that makes for an interesting read.

I will never forget the cover of the December 1993 issue of Action Pursuit Games magazine with Fred Schultz on it. Stumbling across that in the bookstore when I was 12 years old is what put me onto paintball. I pored over every article and advertisement in that magazine until it pretty much fell apart.

Tom Kaye reminds me of Alan Alda.

Bill Bailey is a legendary scenario producer/player/general and runs a field called Bailey's Battlefield in Southern MO. All around awesome guy, and promotes old school mech play.

Tim Schloss is a pioneer of tournament paintball, created Tiger Stripe Products, huge soft goods producer until the 2000's, operated a field called Bushwhackers in St. Louis. Closely connected with other paintball pioneers like Bud Orr and Mike Cassidy. Currently operates Gateway Paintball Park in St. Louis. The finest person in the game, IMO.

The area they used was the "New York Backlot" area at Disney World's MGM Studios park. Today this section of the park is part of their new Star Wars land.

Ah, that makes much more sense. I wondered how you could net off Main Street USA without impeding traffic flow.

Really enjoyed the interview and seeing the massive respect they both have. And that vid from Disney is epic. The commercials make me want to grab my carbine and hit the field.

                Very cool.

I know Tom Ghee spent some time as a Tippmanm rep, used to stop into our store from time to time to say hello. Still able to catch up with him at Skirmish big games every year.
