Hoarder having a crisis of faith

Sooo, I fit right in at MCB, meaning I have a wall full of pumps, mag, cockers and other assorted wierdness and nothing is newer than 2005. Every time I go to the field, I stare at said wall and think, I need to bring that and that and that and that and that, etc. and still end up shooting the same 2 markers.

Now I am sitting here packing for super game 2 weeks early and for the first time ever am thinking I am only going to take 4 markers, then I look at my wall and think, but I'm not selling any of it.

I will be curious to see how the game goes when I don't have an endless pile markers to pull from but I am hoping I can start to turn that corner.

I think MCB needs a therapist on staff.

The collection is in my signature but it is missing 10 or so markers that were either buried in cased, at my brothers house or just plain forgotten about

It's funny, the wife did say I can't get anymore because I am out of wall space. I informed her turning the corner and continuing down the next wall is acceptable

Gotta decide why you have all those markers. I legitimately don't remember everything I own at this point, but I am getting everything for the purposes of collecting and hopefully documenting some clean vintage gear while it still exists.

This conversation happened with my wife earlier:

Wife: when was the last time you used this one?

Me: I might have never used it

Wife: then you could probably sell it

      Me: nope

This continued for a little while

I’m the same way but most of my stuff is lovingly packed away in a foot locker, which is bad because I tend to forget what I have. My surfboards on the other hand are all out in the open for her to see. When I buy a new board I have to sneak it in the house and hide it behind the other ones.

Start by leaving behind the two guns you always use. Then you have to use some of the others. If you then find you don’t like some of the others you sell them for cheap to us vultu—. er, um, helpful MCB members that will lighten the burden from you while giving you money. Us fellow MCBers

        My philosophy is

        USE IT OR LOSE IT!

I own 5 markers for myself

        2 electros (one is primarily a backup/loaner)
        1 e cocker
        1 pump
        1 mech

And I just got a tippman crossover which I'm playing around with a bit to see if I like it enough to keep it.

I know I'm not really much help but I've always figured markers were meant to be used, and if I just like the look of something I can take a photo or look it up online.

Totally agree. I have 4 right now (2 mech's, an electro and one old electro gun that I am keeping for special occasion use) and I am already looking at the one mech I just bought to determine if I should sell it since I won't use it much. I prefer to have usable guns and let the unused equipment go to someone that wants to use it. That's why I started the Curator corner post with all my guns so I have a record of it. I like to get one, try it, love it or not, get rid of it and move it on. The only one I will keep is my Emek because my wife bought me that as a Christmas gift(and I absolutely love it) Otherwise, everything is on a limited time basis. I almost bought another pump this week but I looked at it for a while trying to determine if I would ever actually use it. I know I won't so I reluctantly let it go. But I don't see why you want a bunch of guns that you have never used, don't want to use or will stuff in a box and never let see the light of day again. Let someone use it and enjoy it.

I feel like I could use 2 guns in each feed style and 2 backup tippmanns and beyond that I don’t know I could really justify it. 1 in each feed style more likely. Right now I have 1 right feed, 1 left feed and 2 vert feed guns and that means I need to make one of those vertical markers into a warp feed.

I have one or two markers for every play style just in case. Then a collection of rare SC markers because that’s my favorite way to play. But honestly I could get away with my Phantom an Emek and my 08 Ego. At the same time I like nice things so I collect rare pieces I certainly don’t need.

I recently took the dive and sold about half of my collection. Took me a long time to decide what to keep but it broke down like this:

2 electros (one new, one old)
            2 mechs (new and old)
            2 open class pumps
            2 stock class pumps
            2 blowbacks

There's still some trimming to do since I only take out 1 mech and 1 electro per weekend but the collector in me won't let me part with a few of these guns that I know I would regret selling. To be very honest I don't miss the guns I sold as much as I thought I would and it's a weight off to not have a bunch of things that I drag around in life and never use.

Just tell yourself that you are keeping those guns to be used as loaners in case any of your friends want to play. But when the time comes, don't let them use the good stuff, buy a spyder or A5 for them.

It's definitely a cycle. I had my minimalist moment yesterday where I looked at my collection and realized I don't use MOST of it. I would love to get down to 3-5 guns some day.

I usually pack the "bag of holding" full of markers and such, and try to play through 3-4 in a day. The last two trips out I went light (4 markers in 1 backpack), and ended up only using one the whole day. I like doing both types of days. Sometimes finding that "OHHHhhh YEEEAAhhhhh" marker you forgot about quells the feeling of "I need a new marker".

Yeah, I definitely have a loaner problem. Last time I went out my sister in laws boyfriend went and I toiled about what to give him. I knew he would screw up the trigger pull on the mags and cockers and he wasn't gonna play pump. Finally I decided he can't screw up much with an e-cocker.

After the first game he came off the field with a bloody left thumb. Apparently he got it caught in the ram multiple times. I didn't even realize that was a thing that could be done.

I was in this exact boat maybe a year ago, though mine was also driven in part by my OCD. Once I saw that everything was just fine by only bringing 3 markers it became much easier. I mean, is the sky gonna fall if you don’t bring all 5? It will ultimately make your days less stressful & your cleanups/unpacking easier. Go for it. You won’t regret it.

My zen moment was realizing that as long as I had one backup that I absolutely knew would work when I needed it to, I could then bring just one other marker that I wanted to play with.

The problem, of course, is that even if I pare down my own personal load-out, I have somehow become the airsmith and quartermaster for my group of friends. It is the gear I bring for 2 or 3 other people that has me leaving the parking lot dead last every single time I play.

But what if that uber backup isn’t the backup I want? lol
I always bring my Pro Carb for that purpose. But I also bring one backup to go to before that one.

I used to haul a huge toolbox to the field ‘cuz there was ALWAYS someone who had a gun problem and I was the only one with a surplus of pretty much everything. A few years ago when I hopped on a team I just stopped. I’ll work on guns at the field for other people but I don’t carry much for spare parts anymore.

I usually find myself carrying four markers to the field. One automag, one autococker, one eNMEy or electro (whichever I'm in the mood for that day), or one pump/stock/magfed (also depends on the feeling of the day).

I never find myself without anything to play with.
