    Cheaper regs for 12 grams

    Hello everyone

Finally getting around to that sniper build I had been planning since last summer. As the title says, what are some cheaper regs that are good for co2? My other sniper build has palmers, and I've seen a lot of praise for AKA. Anyone used Ion or WGP regs for 12 grams?

I've used wgp, they work fine I've just never been a huge fan.

I've never run co2 through an ion reg but I also hate them so I do everything I can to not use them

I would avoid the sp1 and exty regs that are supposedly co2 friendly. The design actually doesn't stop liquid co2 from entering the marker, it just vents it once it's already past the regulator.

All the sp regs, I forget what size it is but require a thin wall socket to disassemble and it's a reverse thread as well.

The only marker I use co2 on is my empire sniper, and I just use the stock reg, haven't had any problems.

Does the empire reg's collar have normal fitting threads? Or it is proprietary like the Inception HPR?

There's LOTS of hate for those PMI Pure Energy regs but I've used them with co2 builds and they work just fine. Also use them for my more casual HPA setups too. (Recharge rates are a tad slow for faster markers but should be a champ for a pump.)

I've seen a few of those on ebay. Are they easy to work with?

Wgp is the best cheap reg you’ll ever get. Funny that Trbo likes the empire reg but doesn’t like wgp, they’re part for part identical. Neither empire nor inception have proprietary threads; don’t know where you got that.

I would go wgp over those pmi regs every day of the week. They are a nightmare to work on and go down a lot. The one I had was red loctited together.

I didn't know anything about empire's threads hence my question. I had an inception hpr and tried to screw in a braided hose with standard threads into it, and it felt like the threads didnt match.

The WGP regs are really good and once set are very stable. You can also use a "T" fitting like this (https://www.mcmaster.com/50785K219/) with a plug to adjust without taking completely apart. I used to do this to setup Cockers for people then once fully adjusted and tested would re-pipe without the "T" before giving it back. This allowed me to pull the plug and adjust through the "T" while sweet spotting the reg. Once that is done the regs are real stable and have no need to be "adjusted" that is what your IVG or "Rex" dialer are for.

The stock WGP regulator is a good option. Spyder bottomline regulator is another good one. Any of the generic STBB regulators are pretty good, too... Spyder, Piranha, etc. The CMI-2000 is a good if you can find one.
If you need to talk, I will listen. Leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I get it.

Why didnt I think of stbb regs earlier... I'll definitely look around.

I'll vouch for the stock WGP reg and the PMI reg as well. There is actually a different PMI reg that was used on the Piranha Evo markers called the DSR. Easier to work on than the original and also a slimmer profile. I've got one on my pump 2k.
And for a not as cheap, but still pretty affordable if you can find one, I've also had good experience with the Evil Detonator and co2.

I'm pretty sure that basically the only reason regulators got a bad reputation with CO2 was because of liquid bypassing the reg and expanding to spike pressures in the gun. For most pumps, this just isn't an issue unless you have minimized all your internal passages and have your pierce pin feeding right into your reg without any kind of throttling. Putting an over-pressure relief valve makes a lot of sense, and I think the Tiberius pistols also added this feature into their integrated valve/reg.

Yeah I get what you are saying, for a lot of situations these regs can be just fine. But all I'm saying is they are supposedly designed around being friendly for co2 users but the reality is they don't actually stop co2 from getting in to the marker. And especially if you are using 12g you can potentially just be dumping co2 out of the regulator.

Bob long torpedo. As much as I don't like the design, it's nearly identical to a Palmer's stabilizer and can be had for a fraction of the cost. I'd replace all the seals with polyurethane and you could have a co2 reg for cheap

Beyond that I wouldn't worry about it. I've been running 12g through my empire sniper for over a year and the only thing that's happened is a burst macro hose. No mods to the marker or regulator

Liquid CO2 isn't damaging in and of itself - it's the expansion and over-pressurization that causes FPS spikes, vapor lock, or blown solenoids.

The cold temperatures the liquid causes as it boils off can damage Buna rings. That's why most stuff designed around co2 uses polyurethane rings instead. They can handle the cold temperatures much better

For my low pressure builds I've been using the old Smartparts vertical maxflow regs and the rebuild is easy and the regs themselves work fantastic. No need for a socket. No idea how well they work with Co2 though.

The Max Flo and The Shocker for which it was designed was built with CO2 in mind. They do well on HPA or CO2.

Yes sorry I should have specified, I'm talking about the ion/sp1 regulator and basically everything forward from that

I wish HP manifold-style Maxxies were easier to find, I used those on all my co2 guns back in the day and they worked great

I been running 12g threw my CCM regs without issues for years. I do need to make up some braided lines to replace the CCM fittings and macro tho they don't like the on off pressures of 12g play. You can find them pretty cheap used in a variety of colors they are nice regs.
