Separate sub-forum for tanks and AT assets?

Maybe I am one one the few (I am ), but I like to watch creations of others, discuss technical things and get inspired by ideas and photos. I miss the old forum on Warpig. Moreover combined arms warfare is well possible in paintball (compared to airsoft) and on suitable scenarios it adds a lot into the gameplay. While there are some groups on FB, they are mostly "inactive" and you never see any interesting AT assets in there.

I have watched all your videos , awesome stuff. I don’t have any participation in any forms of what you do but sure think it’s cool as hell.

I have always wanted to turn my buggy into an armored car for paintball big games. Figured if i can build a offroad buggy like this, armoring it for paintball would be a cake walk.

That buggy with MG reminds me of LRDG vehicles from North Africa (I am WWII enthusiast ). With reasonably well protected MG and close infantry support it could still be a valuable asset.

Man, I love this thing. I've been wanting to build something along these lines for a loooong time.

Directing of the other armored assests i guess. This build will be getting a roof hatch in the near future.

If nothing else, its a big mobile bunker to hide behind and get advanced up field. Like all tanks on the paintball field

That is only one of the uses we made of our tanks at D-Day.

Custar, which tank(s) did you run at D-day?
Since That event is over with, what do you plan on using them for, now?

Soulcrusher was mine although in reality I spent a lot more time on foot hunting tanks that I did in mine.

I did not make my Blazer into a dedicated paintball tank, so it was not the most effective one there. As I type this it is sitting in my driveway waiting to take me to another game this weekend. It is completely street legal if not somewhat Mad Max-ish.

Big mobile "bunker" attracts all kinds of shots - especially in the front line. I like such vehicles on the opposite side, I must admit. Yet in big games such vehicle may have its place. Rommel also had one

Sign me up! A significant portion of my best memories in paintball involve tank hunting (not always killing). The tank/AT game is the game-within-the-game, and the tank/AT community is one of the tightest and most collegial in paintball.

I'm in, I'm actually not really an AT guy on the field but the equipment does fascinate me. Completely rebuilt a buddies JCS MKX launcher a while ago and really liked the process. I'll see if I can get photos for you guys

My team has a tanker we try to run during Fulda Gap game. I think it's a jeep Cherokee or something similar. Some interesting builds to see, and shoot at!
However costs to use them has gone wayyy up for some reason so it's harder to do. So we removed the engine, metal, chassis, and the vehicle as a whole and built a "walking tank". We found that the "walking tank" was super effective, essentially a mobile bunker. Ya, it's manual and the steering sucks, but it's got excellent traction in all conditions.

We've been thinking of improvements to how it moves though that might be a valuable discussion. Again not as interesting as gas running 'tanks" but equally as effective.

Okay, from a practical standpoint- that is, the logistics of the forum, not the actual tank creation- I believe it's becoming counterproductive to further split up the board.

Putting in multiple subsections for specific markers and the like was helpful when boards like this had huge amounts of traffic. It helped keep things manageable.

But the sad fact is, we have a small fraction of the traffic we once did. The Zone, here, arguably the most trafficked section of the board, has only had about a dozen posts in the last week- of which this is one of them. A hundred subsections is nice when you have 50,000 visitors. A hundred sections becomes a detriment when you only have 500 visitors.

I believe we need to consolidate, not spread ourselves even thinner. The Big Reset would have been an ideal time for such a thing- instead of a subforum for every individual gun ever made, make 'em a little more generic, like the classifieds. Electros, mechanicals, old school, inexpensive/starter stuff, etc. Maybe eight or ten subforums, not forty-five.

I know this'll be kind of an unpopular opinion, but it's a fact that most of our regulars have abandoned boards like this for Facebook. We're now the hundred-store mall that only has half a dozen businesses left in it. Subdividing those stores into ever smaller sections doesn't help anymore.

What’s a good option to start with building one from scratch?

I want to build one for ION 2022. (There is no age limit for tanks) I want to make it safe and get my kids involved. Figure I can drive them around while they clean house.

I have a welding and fabrication backround so anything is possible but what’s some good budget ideas besides some plexiglass turrets and a rental van with the added insurance JIC lol

SCRK built ours out of Geotrackers/Sidekicks back when we were tanking it. I have had my eye on a couple of Kei Trucks in particular the Subaru Sambar or the Suzuki Carry. 4x4 is nice and if it has a 2 speed transfer case it is pretty easy to lock it down to 4x4 Lo to help limit its speed.

Here are some random thoughts about the vehicle on which to base a paintball vehicle.

IMHO, the worst mistake people make when starting a paintball tank build is buying the cheapest chassis possible. That usually means it will have mechanical problems that will invariably show up at the worst possible times. Pay a little more and buy a reliable vehicle in good mechanical condition. No matter how you deck out the platform with cool turrets, etc., if it is mechanically unreliable you will spend more time fixing it than shooting crunchies from it.

Evaluate the field(s) on which you will be using the tank. If it is rough, spend the extra for 4wd.

While I know it is not a sexy option, vans are inexpensive and have a lot of room for all sorts of fun stuff.

Last, consider if you will ever use it for anything else. Mine is a ZR2 Blazer that I drive to games, put a superstructure onto for netting for use during the game, and then remove to drive home in after the game is over. I use it every week to drive around town. Pretty much everything works on it, including the AC and cruise control.

Wash it promptly after the games. Just figure in the cost of a portable pressure washer as part of the build. You will thank me for it later.
