I dug this out. About 15 years go, I converted a MegaZ to electro, with eyes, etc, but still on liquid co2. This was my first test fire, the battery is just ziptied.
Its not that interesting, except that I used a short macroline in place of the missing hardline (it had been swapped with a nitrovalve). Anyway, you can see the liquid co2 in the macroline...

Quick Update on the the Liquid Spyder Victor II I put together.

I got my two 20 oz Siphon tanks from Jordan this past weekend, and was able to use the Liquid Spyder at a big game in Ottawa, Ontario

Only got the tanks filled on the drive up to Ottawa, so I had not had a chance to really tune this gun. I had really no idea how it was gonna go.

At the field Sunday morning it aired up fine, no leaks.

Testing at the chrono was a different story! The gun was shooting around 330 fps ! This was with the Warrior Spyder spring kit I had in there, with the heaviest valve spring, and the lightest mainspring. This was with the RVA fully backed out!

I remembered I had brought some cut spyder mainsprings ( cut for indoor play) in my toolbox, so I did a quick mainspring swap with the cut spring and headed back to the chrono.

Now the spyder was shooting about 265-270 fps, and turning the rva in a bit i was easily able to get around the 280 mark, and it was consistent!

I can confirm the claims about liquid co2 consistency! I had to chrono this gun several times throughout the day and I never had to touch the rva again. It just held there at 275- 280 ish all day long. Call me impressed !

Performance wise, I wasn't really keeping track of the pods I went through on the first tank, but I felt I got a decent amount of shots off of that 20oz, which I ran completely dry.

One thing I was expecting was more co2 cloud action!?? It kind of just looked like a gun running regular co2 to me......maybe the temperatures ( low to mid 20's Celsius ) had something to do with it. Also I chose the shocktech supafly bolt because it doesn't have orings, and I thought I'd get more co2 cloud effect coming out the back of the gun. That didn't happen either ! So i never really got the whole " wow, what the heck is wrong with that guy's gun !?? " effect I was shooting for!

I shot the spyder on semi mostly, with some full auto set to 8 bps to avoid chops. I had no chops all day, and just a single barrel break , which I just shot through with no real accuracy issues after a few clearing shots.

Anyhow, I'm calling my liquid spyder experiment a success!

Here is a pic of me on the move, with the Liquid Spyder!

Rad! I was wondering if the body space before the valve was going to be an issue with expansion. Are you using the stock valve or the newer EKO valve?

I was worried about that too, that my velocity might be affected, but it seemed to be ok. I mean, maybe i lost some efficiency due to a larger than desired volume ahead of the valve, but hard to tell. I just used the stock valve, but used different springs I thought would make sense for a liquid setup. I did end up needing to use a cut down stock mainspring to bring the velocity down

Always wanted a Montneel Mega Z. Lucked into an ICD Puma and it runs great on Siphon. The owners manual even has a section on setting it up. It may even be more efficient than the Mega Z.

i had a feeling the ICD 'cats would be great liquid guns!

Will an ICD Alleycat Deluxe "go liquid" ?

        Yes. Yes, it will.

With not very much tuning, I have the Alleycat shooting stable around 280fps with these settings:

        - Recock Set Screw - Turned all the way in
        - Velocity Set Screw - Turned all the way out, flush with the 'cat body
        - RVA - approx. 2.5 turns in
        - Freak barrel with .682 insert

I had this marker out a couple weekends ago, in 4-5 Degree Celsius weather and velocity was consistent the whole time I used it.

The efficiency was acceptable in my view as well, I wish I had counted pods exactly, but I was able to get several games in before I ran out of liquid on my 20oz Siphon tank.

For liquid use, I did need to remove the ANS expansion chamber you see in the pics, and I just ran the air line directly into the vertical asa for the shortest gas path.

Anyhow, I was very impressed how well this 'cat handled liquid co2 !

Next gun on the Liquid List ...... the Tippmann Mini-Lite !

Will the Tippmann Mini-Lite run on liquid co2 ?

Yes. Yes it will.........but with horrible efficiency !!!!

I ran this mini lite on the same cold day at Combat Pursuit in Pickering , Ontario Canada in 4-5 Degree Celsius weather. I set the gun up as you see in the pics , plugging the vert ASA and running a back bottle Siphon Tank.

On a side note, with a back bottle tank installed, and a 16" All American barrel, it is not lost on me the irony this Tippy is referred to as the "mini lite" !!

Tuning wise I have the velocity limiter grub screw basically turned all the way in , and the Taso RVA turned out 3-4 more turns than you see in the pics.

Chrono'ing was still pretty consistent , even though I had terrible paint to work with, very small stuff and horribly misshapen with multiple flat spots on each ball. and the 16" AA, which is probably a bore size of .691 - .693 ......I was still getting enough shots in a row approaching 280 FPS , I was happy enough.

This next part is not entirely scientific , as my guess is I had about 14 oz co2 ( probably less) left in a 20 oz Siphon tank when I took the Mini Lite out on the field.

I'll have to pay closer attention next time, and I will come back here eventually to update my claims, but I think I only got 300 shots off before I ran out of liquid and the mini lite would not re-cock. I had enough gaseous co2 to manually recock the gun, and play a bit longer like it was a pump gun.

In actual gameplay, as fun as it still was to play with this Musket from the 16th Century , I couldn't hit the side of a barn door with this thing!

First off, I was completely blinded by each shot ! Alexndl said he could see me on the field shooting , and the co2 cloud bursts where shooting like 3-4 feet in front of the gun.

Combine being blinded, with the awfully small misshapen paint , the huge bored barrel , and the dark shelled paint I could barely see downfield, my inaccuracy was comical ! I remember having one rental Newb who kept his head up over the bunker and just stayed there in my sights, and I could not hit this guy for the life of me! It was like he had a bloody force field around him!

I still have some tweaking room to work on the Efficiency for next time. Maybe a TechT iFit adapter with a small insert, and find a weaker mainspring, or cut the existing one a bit, so I can back out that velocity screw more.

All in all, a fun experiment !

Very nice to see these. 👍

I'd be interested in seeing a re-test when it warms up & you do the things you mentioned for the Tippmann.

              Thanks man!

I tells ya, get yourself a couple Siphon tanks put together and a whole new ( old ) world opens up !!

You will have to Dremel out the back of the shroud for the ifit adapter to fit.

I would be worried that you couldn't get it down to an appropriate velocity with an ifit adapter, and cutting the mainspring is a punishable offense at this point since you will be hard pressed to find another.

I think I have a spare pro-lite mainspring kicking around that is weak....that might be ideal. And since it's no good for hitting 280fps anymore on regular co2, even if I had to cut it, I would do so with more of a clear conscience !

I confirm this Mini-lite shoot smoke like a musket!

it was fun to see it in action
