Your favorite marker. And why.

So my brother took me out to play recently after a ten year hiatus and I got to thinking about all the paint guns that have gone through my hands. My favorite has been my VSC Phantom with a Rainman undercocking kit, 86 frame and freak bored barrel.


I shoot nothing but stock class guns and I have had Carters (plural), a 2008 Grey Ghost, a Gargoyle, KPs, PGPs, a Super Stocker and every other brass marker under the sun in my hands and nothing has taken the crown from my Phantom. It points so well and the muscle memory of snap shooting with it is still there. It's got dents and scratches from memorable games like fencing a pgp away from shooting me point blank when I attempted to bunker someone.

So what's your favorite (or favorites, past or present) and why?

Right now? My CCM T2.

Tight tolerances, consistent velocity, buttery pump stroke, it shoots lasers — and looks great doing it.

Can’t ask for much more than that.

My T2 because I know where it's gonna hit, and I know it'll work.

My Emek because it's rock solid, just works. Can't wait to try out that exalt bolt compared to my cs2 bolt, and that weird liquid PB trigger when they both show up.

Exalt makes a CS2 bolt? I couldn't find much aside from a Geo 3 bolt by Exalt

Whoops. Meant the TechT. I always associate the black bolts with exalt since I have one in my Geo 2.1.

That's a great looking Phantom. Love that particular shade of green, had one the same color for a little bit.

I'll have to join the T2 train. I've had a couple years ago that didn't get much use, and they were the quad rod version. Now I have another, with the arm guides in the body and the original style pump handle. I thought I was a full body only type, but the T2 is just magical.

Then I'd have to go with a "space mech". I've used the Emek for a while but then decided I wanted a more refined feel so settled on the M170R. I have nothing against GRN, but the feel of the aluminum M170R is nicer in my opinion. It is a smaller marker though, which takes getting used to. I received this one with a hair valve and the trigger spring removed. I pulled one out of a pen, which is stiffer than stock, and now it has a really nice snappy return I can get a good rhythm with. I don't like super soft or light trigger pulls on something semi-auto. These Eclipse mechs are so just easy to use. Simple, maintenance isn't difficult when it needs it, not much can go wrong, extremely smooth and light. They just work and don't have to think twice. Not much to customize or tinker with, which some may see as a negative, but I don't want to mess around getting things to work.

I dont have a favorite, but my WALZ build is pretty high up there. Just for fun, Ill pick one of my favs.


For a production level shooter. Ill say the RSX. When it released it checked q lot of boxes no one else could. The tooless back cap, hoseless design, delrin detents, small profile, it was lightest production marker at the time, and yet its just a nice ion inside so I fully understood how it worked from jump. I personally love the simple milling more than that of the xls, cvo, qnd or amp.

add the cvo trigger and its a bad ass little mech ripper.

Interesting pick with the SLG. A simple & compact design, but had issues over time. I liked the one I had years ago.

When it works, my pirate PMI. Something so satisfying about it. It's easily the gun I'm most accurate with, but that's because it really makes you think about your shot.

I love my Phantom and Gargoyle I have a hard time picking my Favorite. Probably my J6 build is my Favorite to shoot it’s just to smooth.

My Mini... works every time, and hits what I'm aiming at. My SR Cocker might take its place, though.... we'll see how it goes this year.

I think my Hurc and classic RT tie for second place... the Hurc is a blast to play with, and my RT sweetspots at 18 or 19 bps - it's like using a light machine gun.

My Phantom. There are other guns that I've been able to shoot a little better, but none that give me the sense of confidence that the Phantom does. It's reliable as can be, and if it gives me problems I can fix them in a couple minutes and be ready to play again.

My Automag. I rarely play with it these days, but it will always be by favorite. Received it for my 14th birthday in 1995 and was utterly shocked my parents actually bought it for me. I had been playing for a bit over a year, maybe a year and a half by then, with a used 68 Special I had bought myself. That mag was my Red Ryder BB gun, and remains to this day the best birthday present ever. During my 20 year hiatus, it sat in my gear bag, patiently waiting to spring back to life the moment I replaced the seals and aired it up.

Amongst the markers I more regularly play with, my CZR has been my primary since I bought it last May. Lots of fun to shoot and reliable in an it-just-works kind of way. But lately the EMEK has been vying for my attention, and may soon become the favorite of my active use markers. I like the lower paint consumption of shooting a mech, along with the reassurance that I'm not dependent on my electro and the man still matters more than the machine. Somewhat paradoxically, I enjoy both the reliability of the EMEK and the fact that it is customizable and upgradeable in a manner reminiscent of the 90s, when no one ran a mag or cocker in stock configuration.

I think for sheer focus on playing and getting the job done with very expected results and accuracy and consistency, my phantoms have been my favorite. They just are so correctly made that you can go all out all the time and expect it to do its job.
