    SCATTER Events/Format

This looks quite intriguing and fun! What do you guys think?

Interesting to see how the battle royale style of games is seeping into paintball. Seems like a fun spin, I'd give it a go. I'd be interested to see how they would handle a SC player, since that's absolutely how I would want to rock it.

Limited paint is just better overall, even in a speedball format. The old Millennium Series matches are great to watch, especially for someone who is unfamiliar with the game. Players actually make moves instead of just shooting a lane for 5 minutes.

Jonnydread The Millennium Series used the WPBO 500 Limited Paint Format which only allowed players to enter the field with 1 loader (280) and 2 pods (140 ea). The matches are awesome to watch. http://www.millennium-series.com/rul...rules=official

I was working on a battle royale style event for my field before this year went to shit.

everyone would start with a JT splatmaster (yes, the spring powered 50 cal guns)

and then on the field there would be 10 round tubes of 68 cal and 15 round tubes of 50 cal (aka the same tube just filled with different sized paint) as well as several different 50 cal and 68 cal paintball guns, ranging from the 50 cal revolvers, to GI-50s to TMCs, etc.

i thought it was amazing putting a cap of 140 balls on the game. but after hearing you can just get another pod, it's just OK.
"hey ref, run over here and give me 6 pods" = LAME
it should be you have to leave your bunker and get to the ref for your paint...

Yeah, paint should be on the exposed roof of central buildings, only. It would be way more exciting.

The whole single elimination, small format speedball just sounds disappointing. An unlucky first move could mean a 2 minute event.

I thought they were promoting this as being a non-paintballer event but the whole assemble your marker thing would seem to make that very newbie-unfriendly. Without separating the two groups, I don't see how rental people will have much fun.

It'll be interesting to see the metagame in terms of grabbing paint. Do you build the cost of extra pods in at the start and just buy them off the ref right away or do you risk running out but running lighter/not waiting for a ref.

Curious to hear field owners thoughts on giving up a day of play for an event like this. The pricing seems like it should have a decent ROI for them, but who knows what Scatter's cut would be and all that.

At $10 a pod = Pay to win.
Should be smaller pods and distributed around the field - inside bunkers, out in the middle of open areas, etc.
Should also be able to 'loot' eliminated players.

I think it's a great concept but not a fan of the execution (largely due to pay to win aspects and global rankings).
Who's providing the refs? How many fields do you think are going to have 8 good refs available to consistently run these events?

Agreed. I know this is the SC player in me saying this, but 10 round tubes would add a much more interesting element to the game for me.

general idea is great, proper execution will definitely require some iterations. i do enjoi the idea of more "rec" themed game though. 5 man race to gets boring real quick. i also think field owners will be great assets in moving through those iterations until we can settle on a generally accepted format across the board. they do after all have the responsibility of creating an engaging and competitive and most importantly fun and safe environment for their renter and self equipped customer base. if any field owners have a goo solid rec base, these would be the people to listen to imo.

shameless plug at my field owner, hi Dan!!

Better get to Forrest Gump level gun assembly skills too. Seems cool, dont know if it'll catch on, but I'd give it a try

I am actually excited to see how these play out. Thankfully my field got in early and is one of the hosts.

I agree i think it would be cool to actually have to pick up paint or even guns to survive. not a fan of paying for the extra paint but i understand that new players may need to to be competitive.
