    TJD Customs Pneumatic Assist Lite

    https://www.notlamegames.com/collect...ack-autococker

Curious what the pump community thinks of this mod? Would you allow something like this in pump-only games? What if it was paired with an autotrigger making it essentially a semi-auto marker? I’m interested in building a pump with this kit but if it wouldn’t be allowed or frowned upon I don’t think I will.

There's no universally accepted set of rules so it depends entirely on where / with whom you're going to play. I would think you're likely to be excluded in some cases if that's your only pump.

My own group generally plays by "don't be a dick" rules so as long as you behave yourself and don't lay on the autotrigger it's cool.

I'm with Axel, play what you have just be mindful of the group dynamic and "don't be a dick" during regular play.

Competition [i.e. Pump Tournament] I would not allow except if there was a separate bracket for them.

So do these run as a regular 3 way with the option to pump it then?

Yup, it is just breaking the mechanical interaction between the 3-way and the trigger so you have to do the two separate actions but everything else is just like a normal cocker. With practice you could be essentially just as fast as a cocker but it is an alien feeling at first. So if I was to use it in a pump game I would limit myself to one small gravity fed hopper to keep myself on reasonable par with the rest of the pumpers

        Not quite ...

Its a 3 way that is not linked to the trigger, to cock the gun, press it, then release it (it's spring loaded).
So you "pump" by pressing it, it's short stroke and light compared to a "regular" pump kit

Ah, I missed there was no linkage to the trigger. Make sense.

Throw an auto-trigger on there and you've got Semi with extra steps. Haha

As I understand it these are basically a much-simplified and miniaturized way of approximating the functionality of a Brad Q. Nestle S.H.O. Sniper.

Same thing, but without the pump handle connected.

Here's how I always look at it,

Full pump stroke + autotrigger= acceptable

Pnu assist pump w/o autotrigger = acceptable

Pnu assist + autotrigger = not acceptable, all you have done is turn your "pump handle" into a trigger for a semi auto

I have a dream of building a pnu assist pump using 2 trigger frames, one forward and one normally where it is. I'm sure some pump purists will poo their pants because of it but it would function on the same principals. One independent action to chamber a ball, another to fire it. They are just both trigger pulls

I would say yes but I have really no experience or authority to consider such questions.

I'll throw this out; it's not too hard to swap between the PA Lite kit and a standard cheap pump kit. Just unscrew the pump arm, swap front blocks, and reinstall arm. Timing is not so critical since the trigger and pnuematics aren't linked

So you could build the gun you want and then just pick up a conventional pump kit later to swap out on the fly as necessary. Of course autotrigger would complicate that a tad

I think that’s what I’m going to do. I already have a mini with a pump kit, so when I install this I’ll use a volumizer. Should make swapping out easier. Will probably use a mini-orracle angled front block so my fingers are right under the pneu-pump. Only hitch is I need to remove the CCM frame to get the Autotrigger cam off, but that’s not a big deal.

Well I think they are ok

I think you will find most rec groups you play with especially if they are mixed pump semi will go by the "don't be a dick" rule.

Also I don't think your going to find anyone who sells AT ready cocker arms right now, so you might have to either modify an at ready pump arm to take a AC coupler or drill and tap your own pump arm.

Update to show off completed build:

I wanted to go with a front block with an integrated VASA as it would put your finger closer to the "pump handle". Chose the Inception Designs extended reach platform over a mini platform as it gives room for your thumb and I can only find full length pump arms that were tapped for auto-triggers.

Also went with a smaller LPR so it wouldn't get in the way. I had a WGP Tickler lying around but I think a WGP Bullet would have been perfect.

The "pump handle" has a set screw that holds it in place. I had replaced it with an longer screw to use as a hitman handle, and it worked great, but it looks cleaner without it. If I find an inch long 10-32 black shoulder screw, I may try it again.

I'll also want to replace the pre-travel screw with a shoulder screw for a smoother pump stroke:

Normally don't put a set screw on the 3-way, but I'll probably put one on here for added stability.

Overall I'm very happy with how the build turned out. I think this will be my primary recball gun for a while. I'll be able to play pump against renters but also fall back to higher rate of fire if needed.

Can't even tell it's a pump on first glance.

I think it's funny that the LPR now gets in the way of the pump handle.

This would be cool on one of those world's smallest Autococker (Mini/Midget/Half-back) builds.
