If I could go back in time (insignificant edition)

This is a thread to say the paintball things you would change if you could go back in time.

not things like getting the Gardner bros into Lacross or something instead. Not trying to find the most important thing to fix but some minor annoyance.

I’ll start by going back in time to make the WGP plastic slide trigger frames be made of the same quality as the AGD plastic frames so we’d be flush with good sliders in 2022.

-Er, they were made of the same plastic. On the same machines, in fact, by the same company.

The 'Cocker ones don't hold up as well, because more material is lost due to the larger volume of the sliding trigger, and the weak spot formed by the 3-way link slot.

If I could go back and change things? Convince RP Scherer to keep ahold of it's encapsulation division.

Tell the engineers designing the original Angels that a bolt and breech diameter of .700 to .710 is NOT a good idea. (And that with that physical defect, no COPS or Sensei or even ACE can stop chopping.)

Standardize a better, faster barrel thread.

And go back to about '94, and patent the idea of using electricity to fire a paintball gun.

    Doc.

I do believe the cast frames were made by the same manufacturer. Maybe for a brief time the composite were too. I have yet to even try and look up my source. Lol. I could be wrong.

I find it hard to believe that they are similar, because the wgps crack in just about every place and the AGD units never do.

I’m not only referring to the single hole WGP plastic frames but the .45s too.

      The material doesn’t feel alike.

My word, what a simple and brilliant idea that would have had tremendous effects.

"Standardize a better, faster barrel thread."

So basically convince Bud Orr to adopt what in our timeline became the Impulse/Ion/NXT/Luxe thread?

In the early to mid-nineties my friends and I all used a spray foam to clean barrels and masks from paint. It was an unbelievably easy and quick way of getting rid of paint. One quick burst of spray down your barrel, wait three seconds for it to swell and absorb the paint, then pull a squeegie through the barrel, and the barrel looked just as pristine as the day it was manufactured, shining as it had just been honed.

I have not been able to find that product anywhere since, and I don't know why it seemingly vanished into thin air. My best guess is that the foam eventually turned out to contain something harmful and had to be pulled from the stores. In case it wasn't obvious, this spray foam was sold as a paintball product, and labeled as such. I have no idea if it was designed specifically for paintball, or if it was just an off the shelf cleaning product that some sly individual rebranded and upped the price on.

Anyway, I have sorely missed that little odd "paintball product" ever since. Have any of you used it? Or do you have no idea whatsoever what I'm referring to?

Oven cleaner will mess your stuff up. I thought it sounded more like that aerosol foaming window cleaner stuff.

I'm not asking much, I'd go back to the early 2000's and tell Jim Reible of ICE to use readily available seals in the Epic.

I would very much enjoy to shoot my Epics again.

Wicked Impulse jerseys. Still wear the one I bought 22 years ago when I need something under the Hawaiian shirt.

I’d go back & try to convince Tippmann’s former owners to not sell the brand, or at least not to sell it to GI. Tippmann is a shell of what it used to be & GI basically made it into the new Brass Eagle. It’s rock-solid (pre-GI) products & its leadership in the low-end market is sorely missed. I often imagine what Tippmann would be making now if they hadn’t sold off to GI.

EDIT: if that’s too big of an item, I’ve got nothing else, really. lol
Though I do like Doc’s idea of RPS keeping their encapsulation division.

          This.

I bet if Tippmann hadn't sold , we'd have Hydrogen powered paintball guns that you filled once a decade! Or an SL 68 III pump. Take your pick.

I'd go back to ~2015 when Kingman Hammer 7s were selling for $60 new. I'd max out my credit card and sit on them for a few years.

I'd make boards all have a "walk-on mode" for field owners. Press a button and it's limited to pure semi 10bps.

Edit: and this only applies to tune travel because all the good guns were made in the past, so the boards need to be fixed there.

Insignificant but also significant, I would go back and start out playing earlier. Mow more lawns etc for money to play more. Convince my folks to help out too. Take it more serious. I was middle school aged and had been invited to play before but was too afraid of it hurting etc. Until a girl neighbor said she played and loved it, so I thought ok if a GIRL did it....hahaha. I was hooked after the first time, but was on my own to pay for stuff so it was hard to stay consistent with buying gear, paying to play, relying on others for transportation etc etc.

My close friend all got into it and found out others at school were way into it, so could have definitely made more happen and gotten "good" sooner.

Yup, I was nearly 30 the first time I played paintball. Some friends of mine had been playing casual games at least a few years prior to that. Up to the point of my crash in 07 I was actually (in my own mind) becoming a darned good player and had a lot of cool things going for me at the time. Had I started playing just a bit sooner there is really no telling where I could have ended up. Reality being what it is, though, I may well not have been present for those opportunities that did happen for me. Who knows. If nothing else, I could have enjoyed the sport a great deal longer.

I’d sit out a few games and hang out by Glenn Palmers pickup truck so Camille could be on display somewhere instead of at the bottom of a lake or whatever

Win a small lottery so I could secretly fund Rodney's kickstarter and we'd all have the Gargoyle 2 and Warthog.

Convince Lapco to never stop making the Grey Ghost, or at least do a run every 4 years.

Make the 2x2 HPA tank rule accepted at EVERY field and shop, or get the entire thing scrapped entirely so we can stop arguing with people about it.

If I could go back in time and had the power to change things then I would make E Spyder boards run off a regular 9v battery instead of 9.6v, and I would support the dickens out of smaller companies that are no longer with us, companies such as Centerflag.

I would love to go back to the early -mid 90s and play with my old friends again. Also go back to the shop that I worked at in the late 90s and tell the owners not to hire the idiot that ran both of their stores into the ground.
