Here is one of my personal views on tippmann: their designs were outdated 15 years ago and they still use them.

I do side work as an airsmith and if it wasn't for the fact that I can make so much money on tippmanns, I wouldn't touch them at all

I do think tippmanns have their place in paintball, it's just nowhere near my gear bag

Mag feed would also require me to do a vest and basically a dedicated setup, much more money.

Right now, here is the one I'm leaning towards. I do wish it had the ability to fine tune the velocity but at least having the option between high and low is better than no adjustment at all and I'm sure I could tweek it from there if I needed to. Anyone have experience with these?

No worries, just helping brainstorm ideas....and I am a self admitted huge Tippmann fanboy (own 68-Special, Mini Lite, Pro Carb, SL68II, Model 98 flatline, A5 ) so my brain went right there

In my own .50 Cal quest to get the younglings in my friends and family into paintball early, I happened upon 2 new old stock Spyder Stormers, cheap, cheap , cheap $40 Cdn each...so I snapped em right up! I then found some good deals on 2 more NOS Spyder Opus, the regular Opus, and the Opus-A with the nicer metal frame. The Stormers seem need at least 800 psi but other than that they're neat little shooters, and the plan is to try to join rental groups (I failed this past weekend, the field owner wouldn't let us join the .50 Rental groups! ) and not have a huge advantage over renters, but at same time have our own , better maintained gear...

FYI, this upgrade for Roscoe just dropped, this should help with stabilizing velocity

Weird, the link wouldn't show when I was in tapatalk

But melee, I think you are forgetting the whole point of this, it's to limit myself on the field. If I just slap a 68/45 on my back and a hopper on top of anything that's not limiting at all

Plus I'm not worried about 12g, I already use it for pump play. On my pump I get 20 shots so I figure ballpark 30 shots for 50 cal, I can put 1 spare 12g in my pocket and have more air than shots I'll be able to carry in spare cylinders

I can see and click the link.
its to the constant air adapter for the rosco.
It's a tube with the proper threads and a qd nipple on the end for the remote.
im wondering if it's like the tipx where you can switch between 12g and constant air ...

Putting aside your views on tippmanns, the .50 TMC might not be a bad option.

You said you wanted to limit yourself, and magfed is a great way to do that. You don't have to go out and run a whole milsim magfed loadout. You can run a single mag in the gun if you really want to challenge yourself, or run jungle mags by using tape or the mag couplers. Or put extra mags in a cargo pocket or pod pack with velcro closures.

Regardless, running 2 mags will get you 50 rounds, and I'm not sure how much ammo you're looking to bring on the the field anyway, given you're looking at a revolver. Feeding it with a 13ci, 12 grams, or even 90 grams are all options too.

The Roscoe will likely be cheaper all in, but this does give you options.

There's a bunch of problems with that though, besides the fact that I'm not doing it and already said as much

              1) why would I spend money on a marker who's only different thing over the rentals is where the paint is fed in? I can put 25 paintballs in each pod and just play with a rental

              2) cost, tmc $250
              Mags $30
              Vest/remote/anything I forgot $100

The pistols on the market (that I'm looking at) top out at $150 and I won't need a vest or remote

Remember this is getting my daughter into the sport so the longest I'm using this setup is 2ish years AND I'll also need to buy my daughter's setup,

              3) will I even be able to use it? TMC is much more intimidating to rental players than a pistol. If too many people complain, most fields will ask you to use a rental. So then there's my marker, which I spent $400, sitting on the bench while I use a rental that has the same internals

How about we get this back on track and talk about PISTOLS since that's why I made the thread anyway.

              Anyone seen these before?

              https://www.ansgear.com/T4E_50_Cal_P...ol-2292131.htm

I'm willing to bet I could tweek it to bring the velocity down

50 cal self defense is a joke though

Not trying to argue, just trying to show that you may have more options than you think.

You can take the stock off the TMC, and run the tank bottomline with whatever tank you want, and the TMC comes with 2 mags out of the box, so the need for vest and remote are negated. You can also take the shroud off to try and downplay the 'scariness' of it. I'm pretty sure the kids would also be pretty nervous facing off against dirty harry though. You are right though, it is quite a bit of money for a gun with such meh performance.

I assume .43 is out of the question due to FPO rules? If not, then the Kingman pistols can be had for pretty cheap.

JT also made a lime green CO2 powered .50 pistol called the US50. It was plastic, double action, and looked like a Desert Eagle. It also had basically a fixed apex rubber flap in the barrel to stretch the range out a bit further. It has an integrated 7 round magazine in the grip, with the option to add a 15 round one in an included mock scope. Not sure on velocity, but I think it's sub 200 fps. At least you won't feel too bad if you bunker a kid... Probably won't worry the kids or field too much either given that it's lime green plastic. Not really the best option, but super cheap.

There's also the GI menace. It's also double action, but probably works better than the JT.

I think all your options for .50 cal pistols that you could get your hands are have been listed here.

So if you convince me it's an option, how does that solve problems 2 and especially 3 above?

So now I'm buying equipment with the purpose of taking it off and not using it, again, seems wasteful

This is always one of my major problems with tippmann. If all I'm getting is blowback performance, I might as well get one of the stbb 50cal and save money (hell I could buy 4 for the same money)

I actually own one of these. All the fields around me are fpo and don't sell .43 so yeah my concern is I won't be able to use them. Also, I've had a hard time finding spare mags for it (haven't been looking super hard)

I went and looked at it, can't say I'm a fan of how to reload it. I had a 32 degrees pt xtreme pistol a few years ago, couldn't get spare mags for it so I had to reload using 10 round tubes. That just killed it for me. Even though I put a ton of work into it and it was probably the coolest pt xtreme ever, I played with it for 2ish hours and then sold it

I haven't actually considered that one. Definitely a contender but I can't say I'm a fan of $35 spare mags. I actually like that they are only 7 rounds but $35 each....damn that's a heavy price tag

Lets see some more pistol options manifest themselves out there for Trboand his kid in 8 years time!! Keep buying .50 cal stuff, (sidearms are the only real use that makes sense right now for a .68 cal player )and promoting .50 cal when you can for younger players , MCB !

I would agree with the TMC 50 cal but since you are dead set against it, why not look at getting a Gog 50 cal and a small tank? They work and it would be small, light and semi only. It would be a fair fight with 50 cal rental guns. I have looked at 50 cal options and nothing is great. I like the Etek5 or LV1 conversion but you are back to kids not wanting to play against you and you can fire much faster than rentals. The Gog and TMC's are really the next best options. All of the pistols seem to have a flaw or issue of some kind. It's sad that there aren't better options but let's be real, almost all 50 cal players are going to be rentals. It makes sense that the guns on the market are rental type fleet guns.

Because that's not really limiting at all. If anything the performance of all their stuff is far superior to any rental gear.

If there was a decent pump option I'd probably look into that but there really isn't. The jt gotcha is as close as it gets (that I'm aware of) and I can't say I'm a huge fan of plastic spring powered and topping out at 200ish fps.

Besides that, I'm not buying a marker from those snakes the Gardner brothers. I think they are the single worst thing that's ever happened to paintball.

I'll put a list together tonight of the handful I'm seeing and pros and cons that I know of

The gotcha is going to shoot half as far as anything else. I used one against a group of rentals and it made me have to get way closer to them to get the shot. Not a bad option. Really a pistol isn't to be much of a disadvantage because you can move better and get in tighter spots. Again, you could do a gog with a pump 12 round tube or something like that instead of a hopper. That would make you have a disadvantage against rentals. And some fields use gog's as rental 50 cal guns. If you carried less ammo it makes you need to get shots that count.

Do whatever you want but I have gone down this road and what you find is that there aren't great options. Honestly if I were going to play only 50 cal from today on I would just get the Gotcha and use it when you need it. They work and are cheap. The rest are going to be more frustrating than anything. Alright let's see, here are the options as I see them

                              1) FIRST STRIKE ROSCOE $150

                              https://www.ansgear.com/First_Strike...volver-blk.htm

                              Cost of spare cylinders/mags= $10/2

Pros) seems well made, high and low velocity valves available. VERY cheap spare cylinders. Able to play as single or double action, ability to mount a sight

Cons) changing 12g seems a pain, you have to remove one of the grips to do it. No fine tuning velocity

Questions I still have) which valve does it come with from the factory?

                              2)T4E .50 CAL TR50 $100

                              https://www.ansgear.com/T4E_50_Cal_T...r50gun-blk.htm

                              Cost of spare cylinders/mags= $10/2

Pros) changing co2 seems much easier than it's larger brother above. Can still mount a sight. Cheap cylinders

Cons) no velocity adjustment? Seems adjustment is only possible through custom mods. Plastic construction

Questions I still have) number of shots off a 12g?

                              3)GI SPORTZ .50 CAL MENACE $120

                              https://www.ansgear.com/GI_Sportz_50...acegun-blk.htm

Cost of spare cylinders/mags= $35 each

Pros) semi auto pistol, pretty cool look, construction seems solid

Cons) $35 each for mags, ouch. No velocity adjustment?

Questions I still have) haven't seen any velocity adjustment, any possible?

                              4)T4E .50 CAL P2P HDP

                              https://www.ansgear.com/T4E_50_Cal_P...ol-2292131.htm

                              Cost of spare cylinders/mags= ???

                              Pros) an option? Looks decent

                              Cons) 375fps factory velocity

Questions I still have) Ummmm, everything, this is sold as a home defense pistol (which is laughable if you ask me). Is it even possible to modify for field use?

If I remember correctly, I was getting some 25-30 shots on the tr50. That was after taking 10 dry fire shots to get before 300fps.
