    50 cal pistol options

So this is a little more of a hypothetical post over anything as I won't be buying anytime soon but

My daughter only has like 8-10 years until she is ready to play paintball so I need to get ready now!

Assuming she starts with 50cal, I need to think about what I'm going to use. I like the idea of a revolver to restrict myself on a field of kids, so what options are out there?

I think it's the mcs revolver that is all over but from what I was reading, you can't really adjust the velocity on it, so I can't say I'm a huge fan of that idea.

    What what is out there?

One option is you can pick up a Crosman 357 pellet gun for around $50, and buy a .50 Khaos conversion kit from Sellswords. COB has a couple of their Opus kits for comparison that I got to handle last weekend. They're 3D printed, pretty solid, and a lot of fun.

I've got one of the Sellswords-converted Kaos pistols, and while it's been good for getting views on YouTube, using it is often an exercise in maddening frustration. Suitable .50 paint that doesn't blow up in the chamber when shot is very hard to come by, and talking to people who own Roscoe and Umarex .50 revolvers the problem isn't unique to the Kaos.

I can confirm this. My TR50 is cool, but velocity isn't adjustable and every once in a while a shot will explode inside the gun.

The tr-50 is rough on paint ... The first batch of .50cal paint I got blew 5 out of 6 shot ...

Then got decent 50 cal paint and if was much better ... Only blew one every 5 or 6 clips ...
If we find a reliable way to drop the velocity to ~270-280fps I believe it will be much more usable.

i just wish we could get spare parts for them ... Would make trial and error much easier

Isn't most of the .50 available out there for the JT Splatmaster spring loaded series? Supposed to be super brittle for the low velocities out of those guns

Cob's are actually in .62 which we have for SMG 60s and it did handle quite well

That's a lot of the problem, yes.
I've had limited success using .50 blowgun paintballs from eBay, though before it's usuable I have to pack it in rice or some other dessicant for a while to shrink it down.

First Strike Roscoe is much easier to reload than the TRE, but my buddy and I can't get the dang velocity UP enough to actually use. Even with FSR. The FSR are expensive, but the local 50 cal paint is worthless. Haven't yet torn it apart to see what we can do.

I recently had a BB revolver converted to shoot 43 cal by Bill of CCM. He runs a facebook page, message him there. They are more accurate than any of the 50cal pistols I have seen, and WAY more fun!!! Be warned... not cheap though. Bought a case of Nelson paint though from MCS, shoots well, but seems to be a bit on the hard side.

Didn't thought about that ... That's probably my issue, the first batch were JT ...

What does bill use for the .43 conversion?

My brother and I have been shooting his TR50 in the backyard for weeks now, not a single break. I'll ask him what paint he uses.

I just bought a Roscoe but never played with it, currently sitting with a friend who is deleting the rails.

If you start looking at 68 cal options, the FSC is by far my favorite sidearm ever. Loads of fun.

                  Bill's conversions look pretty sweet

But he did say they're basically for target shooting against a hard surface only, and you'll never get the .43 to break on a player

Well nuts, that option is out then. Don't want to have anyone flinging rocks at little ones.

Hrm... On second thought, are there other 43 cal paint brands out there for the other T4E pistols? I know the stuff Bill sends is hard, but if there is softer paint then maybe?

I haven't actually used any .43 but it's probably more about the paint than the gun. All else equal, a smaller sphere will require more force to fracture

I have an assortment of side arms in just about every caliber. In 50 cal there is the JT US50, co2 driven, semi with internal mag. The GI Menace, co2 driven, semi and clip feed. The TR50, Roscoe, Crosman 3357, and Sellswords Chaos revolvers. 3357 can be expensive and shoots at 200 fps and lower. Roscoe has proven to be strange, velocity varies wildly. TR50 shoots hot to start and eventually gets below 300fps. The Chaos shoots great, mid 200's. Its an improved 3357. Additionally, Sellswords makes the 68cal Opus, and they made it in 62cal for me. The 68cal shoots lower fps like 3357. The 62cal shoots mid 220's. As for paint standard 50cal JT is fickle. I found some Meteor and Predator paintballs work the best.

First off, I think it is great that you are embracing 50 cal ! 50 cal absolutely is the best format to get young players into this game, bar none! I am a huge fan ! Just played 50 cal this past Sunday , matter of fact!

Secondly , it makes total sense to limit your equipment when playing in a group of kids, 50 cal or 68 cal !!!

I would skip the pistol idea though, at least for right now. 12 grams, clumsy loading, velocity is not consistent enough, etc. etc.

I would say if you could magically turn your kid into an 8 year old today, to get yourself a Tippmann TMC 50 cal mag fed gun, or their Cronus 50 cal.........but I'm leaning toward the TMC 50cal because you'd really be able to limit your capacity compared to the other renting kids. Your mag I think maybe holds 25 ? Their rental gun with 50 cal hopper, holds near 350 rounds of 50 cal paint!

With your 98 custom internals inside your TMC 50, you're on par with the fields Rental Tippmann FT12's they're probably running.....But if they are renting out the Gog Enmey 50 cal, or man, the Eclipse Emek 50 cal, you are now massively outgunned!

One thing to keep in mind, is the look too ... The tmc might "look frightening" to a lot of kids (and their parents).

Maybe, but I mean the most popular 50 cal rental is that tippmann ft12 variant, and its modeled after an uzi.....so I think parents to even consider taking their kids to paintball are going to expect something that resembles a gun is going to be there.

                      Not only no, HELL no

Here is one of my personal views on tippmann: their designs were outdated 15 years ago and they still use them.

I do side work as an airsmith and if it wasn't for the fact that I can make so much money on tippmanns, I wouldn't touch them at all

I do think tippmanns have their place in paintball, it's just nowhere near my gear bag

Mag feed would also require me to do a vest and basically a dedicated setup, much more money.

First Strike performance is now available in .50 Cal. Check out the brand new line of FS .50 paintball guns now at ANSgear.com!

Right now, here is the one I'm leaning towards. I do wish it had the ability to fine tune the velocity but at least having the option between high and low is better than no adjustment at all and I'm sure I could tweek it from there if I needed to. Anyone have experience with these?
