2x2 Rule and when to dispose of a tank

So I've had an old 22/3K forever. It falls under the 2x2 rule and the manufacture date puts it to 2007. On visual inspection the tank looks fine, no rust or damage. I'm not super worried about it, but curious about the hivemind's opinion on when it's worth retiring these or if I should hydro them as they get up there in age.

And for laughs the setup I plan to use it with this weekend, about as long as the whole Phantom haha:

If there's no obvious damage, and it has not suffered any trauma, I see little reason not to keep it in service.

Yup, this is how I handle. If no damage just keep using. If you are a "belts and suspenders" person then getting it tested is cheap assurance.

If you're worried about it, get it tested. I've never heard of one of these going bad without obvious damage; in paintball or industrial applications.

Idk bout you guys but most fields i go to The fill station are self service. usually just the 4500 fill is unattended but even if you got to have them fill it. The kid behind the counter aint gonna bother to pull the tank cover off to check if its in hydro (hell a cover probably is probably overkill). Only the staff at scenario big games are checking tanks IME.

That may be your experience, but I've been to a couple dozen fields and shops and all save maybe one or two have checked for a valid hydro cert.

I suppose we can all be correct. Fine. Ya happy?!

In all of my years, only a few haven't checked and marked the tank during the first fill of the day/event. Again, never heard of an accident in paintball or industry with tanks of this scale. I still think everyone should be playing by the rules, though - get them tested.

Somewhat ironically, the most issues I've seen with tanks are due to players or hydrotesting stations messing them up removing/installing the regulator to perform hydrotesting; probably a dozen with stripped out threads due to thread locker and excessive force.

If you're concerned about it a visual inspection of the inside is always a good indicator of the life of the tank.
i can gide you with it if you need (I'm certified for visual inspection on scuba tanks)

Dude, I'd like to see a write up! Sounds like a great reference for the "ask the experts" section.

An old timer at my field told me that even if my 3.5oz exploded or the reg popped off, there would only be enough force to injured, not kill, and "that was the owner cares about anyway"

Not sure how true it was, but he had a killer push broom moustache, so i took him at his word.
