    Let's talk packs

Ok so I'm getting gear together to get back into the sport and I need to pick up a pack, ok first off I'm old school so no strapless packs I hate spilling paint and loosing pods, first problem is I can't just go buy a new NXE pack, they were my go to and now they are no longer available, my biggest problem is I'm a little dude, I'm 5" 6' and weigh 100lbs so I'm shaped like a teen so alot if paintball gear just doesn't fit me, any of y'all deal with this and can help me out, also I'm looking for a 2 pod only pack if there are any out there along with a pack for regular play

I’m clinging to my NXE until it’s last bit of Velcro won’t hold and the elastic is all gone. That being said, I wore an HK pack for one day and it wasn’t bad, but too small for me. If you’re in the market for a small strapped pack I know a guy.

For limited capacity, find a redz 2 pod pack used. Still my favorite of all time.

The only two pod packs I know of that are still in production are the basic packs geared towards beginners with nylon web belts. If you can manage to find one, Flurry made a nice pack with modular panels that would meet your needs. Unfortunately they went out of business a while back. Another option you could go with is something like the Dye molle pod packs and a padded battle belt.

No battle belts, they don't fit like a pack and never will, I wear one at work so I know

If the Dye option is out of the question and you can't find any new old stock around, your only other option these days aside from the cheap rental packs is probably going to be a triple pod pack. I just haven't seen any doubles around in a long time. I suppose you could always commission a custom piece from a company like Undr if you're dead set on a double.

I'm not set on a double, just in the market for one, I prefer a 3 pod all day, just want the option for a smaller profile less paint

I normally play with a 3+4 Dye Jet Pack and absolutely love it! With 3 pods in it I barely even know it is around my waist. I even run 100rd GxG pods in mine with no issues.

Really man all the new pod packs are fine. My current pack is a used sly pack 3 pod vertical I got for like 5 dollars at a game last year and its got mega long life left on it and its a great pack. All the packs these days are at least as good as anything from the early 2000's.

I've always found pod packs uncomfortable and too big. (5'8'' / Slender). Not sure what type of game you play but I highly recommend a Condor Sentry plate carrier. Install some faux rubber plates to give it rigidity. I can carry 4+ pods, tight to my body, basically no swing.

You should also consider running 100 rd pods too. That's what I do. I find that anything bigger than that is too cumbersome, swings or slows me down.

I like the idea of a plate carrier. I was debating if I could modify an upland game vest to have a spot for 2 pods (all I will ever carry) What type of rubber did you use? Like, big truck mud flap?

Several different faux plates to choose from out there, here’s a fancy one: https://www.evike.com/products/95531/

What is it about packs that don't fit you? My son is 12 and maybe 100lbs and he alternates between an old NXE or old Valken (just depends on what I grab for him). I never put all 4 pods in because he doesn't need that much weight but he doesn't have any issues running 2 pods.

I've been using a Virtue strapless lately and find it has a smaller profile than the NXE or Valken.

Well first and foremost I find packs uncomfortable. I think that is the biggest barrier for me. Running two pods is not an option for me either (I need more ammo). I've only used two pod packs, both DYE. After repeated use they seemed to lose their elasticity and coupled with the heavy loads I was running, I could feel it shift and even swing too much. I didnt mean to suggest that pod packs are not good for smaller framed people. I'm just explaining my experience with them. And for me, it seemed to boil down to body composition and play style (front, fast, etc.).

I will only wear a pod pack in big game events. Gets in the way, uncomfortable, and weighs me down on the field. Plus im skinny so them falling off is a constant problem.

Their is one on the bay though that i want. Enough that id actually force myself to wear it. Love how it looks.

Valken. I've been very impressed with mine. I used to be a nxe guy as well, my valken fits just as well as my nxe 4 pack to the point where the nxe has become my backup

I now run a valken 4+3+4 pretty much all the time. You can tuck all the elastics away when you don't need them and just run it as a straight 4 pack.

I mainly got it for big games so I don't have to go back to our camping spot after 4pods but soon realized that I like the construction better than the nxe and since I can tuck the elastics away it can serve both roles

I'm pretty sure they do a 3+2+4 as well, maybe look into that

I have a Dye 4+5 pack and it's great. Weighs next to nothing, has pod ejection + straps, and is easily adjusted for fit. Also have an HK Zero G pack and the pack itself is fine, but I don't like the strapless design. If I were going for an HK pack I would get the Magtek.

I picked it up at the field mid-practice because my old pack was not doing so well.

I found a new-old stock Evil 3 pack this year that was still brand new in the package. There are still some old brands around. ebay will be your best bet on that stuff. I had a HK strapless before that and I was surprised how well it held paint. But I think that for a smaller guy they might be kind of bulky.
