Another curiosity question just for fun; does your pod color matter?

Not much, but prefer subdued colors.

I used to switch colors depending on the game type for that day. But that's why I go with gray/smoke nowadays. It goes with pretty much anything, and I'm getting lazy, lol. These are what I use:

I highly recommend them especially if you have never tried before

I still have WDP Fatboys and Toxic pods from the early 2000's if you can believe it. Still work perfectly.

Same for my pre 2k VL pods. If you make stuff out of good soft plastic, they last. .

I play mech only with a spire and 1-2 GXG clear 140s for Rec games. For scenarios I take 3. BK strapless 3+ pack because it’s easy to replace empties in the field.

When I did use pods, I had a GI Glide pack with four, 140 Valken pods. More than enough. No extra pods. Refill between games. Pods/packs make me feel too heavy and slow though.

I only need enough pods to fill my harness because I don't pre-load them because the paint gets smooshed. Unless its at a big game and I would expect to be using like 700 balls per person and don't give a damn where the balls fly as long as there is a lot of them.

I splurged on a ton of pods from Acton village in probably 03-06. I actually still have 2 brand new cases under the bench. I still use them I got more since then though usually to get to free shipping. I typical like basic looking pods no bumps no special locking tabs just a basic 140 rd pod with a semi soft lid is my favorite. As for colors I don't really care but I have been using those purple pods for over a decade. When I try new ones I go for easy to find colors, white pink orange. Something I can easily find when I'm walking back to the start.

lol, way back in the day, we were playing a scenario game as the blue team against the red team. I'm on a 2-story tower looking out into super thick brush trying to spot the other team. Suddenly I spot a flash of red and I just unload into the brush trying to reach them. Sure enough, I did see red, but it was my teammate's red pods on the front of his vest haha. To this day he now wraps his pods in camo tape.

Usually run a pair of pod in a 4+3+2 pod pack for recball, 6 or 8 pods for scenarios and a joyride or chest harness for stock class. Cheapo GxG pods are usually fine, but my dad really likes the Dye Alpha's and I have to say they are really nice. The better lip to hold the lid and protected tab is real nice for strapless packs.

The best two pods ever made: WDP Fatboys and Toxic pods:

Still going strong after 15+ years. More likely to lose them than to break 'em.

Since I've only been out to play 3 times recently after a 20 year absence, I'm still rocking 100 round straight-walled Viewloader pods in my old 4+1 horizontal belt harness from I&I Sports.

I used to mainly play hopper-only single elimination woodsball back in the 90s, so my ingrained habit is to not spray paint unless I have to. The only time I've actually used all 4 pods in a game was playing an attack-and-defend scenario with attacking team respawns and well-fortified defenders. I figure that 2-3 140 round pods, 4 tops, would be more than sufficient.

I've been looking at joining the 21st century and maybe getting some 140 round pods and an new harness. Debating about whether to go with vertical mounted on the lower back like a speedballer (which I am not) versus maybe some kind of vest or chest rig. The former seems like a simple, sleek set-up that would let me keep my elbows tight to my chest when behind cover. The downside is that I prefer to put my empty pods back in my harness since I play woodsball and drop-and-recover might be a hassle. The latter option would make replacing the empties easier, but I'm concerned that having pods on or near my chest might interfere with my usual shooting stance.

Anyone care to offer some insights on this? How difficult is it to replace an empty pod into a vertical mount on your back while playing, particularly the type with an elastic ejector design (like an HK HSTL for example)? With a vest/chest rig setup, am I worrying too much about crowding my elbows while shooting? As for typical playstyle, I might occasionally pull a baseball slide, but I never dive headfirst or crawl.

I’ll take a crack at this one....

First and foremost...Is your current pack and 100 round pods working for you? Are you finding yourself running out of paint? If it is working and you have enough paint, I’m a BIG fan of “if it ain’t broke...”

If it’s not working for you, that’s a different story....

While a chest rig vs. a vert pod pack are a personal preference to an extent. If you run one enough, you’ll eventually get used to it and learn to work around it.

Personally, I HATED running any sort of harness when I was playing 20 years ago...so I didn’t. I kept it light and fast in the woods (but I ran out of paint!). I started planting full pods on the field as ammo cashes for myself (I lost A LOT of Pods back then)

Now that I’m no longer light or fast, I carry pods. I have a vert mount, 4 +3 and I run with (4) 140 round tubes. The hardest part for me to get used to was the weight, not the bulkiness. I got a nicer pack from a friend, has several elastic and Velcro straps and that made a HUGE difference. I stopped noticing it after 2 games. It is a bit of a pain to get the pods back it, but you’ll get used to it. I haven’t tried diving with it yet....I would think a horizontal would favor that more. When I'm the big, slow runner in games (that's usually when I dive), I leave my pods and marker behind and see if I can gain 2 extra steps before I'm winded....

One other thing to keep in mind is your load out (I think that’s the correct term). Figure out how many shots your tank/marker combo can handle, that will tell you how much paint to carry on the field.....If you can only get 600 rounds out of a full HPA tank, why carry 760 rounds on to the field (200 in the hopper and 4 140 round tubes)?

I find replacing 140s in an elastic-ejector pack to be pain in the ass. 100s do typically work better because they’re shorter but of course don’t also then “eject” as intended.

I switched to a strapless pack and find it excellent for replacing pods on the go. The obvious concern is always full pods coming open. I’ve had no problems but I do load them with the flip tab facing my butt. There are also a few different pods available with locking lid mechanisms.

Thanks for the information. By strapless pack, I presume you mean that the pods are held in elastic sleeves that are snug around the pods' cross sections?
