78 thou is plenty of material, even 50 thou would be more than acceptable... the springs pressure is all concentrated near the circumference of the face anyways. I've done the same on my Scopey sniper and it's probably about .050" thick wall left. And it's been used a looong time

PS, even if you could make it fail, it would never be dangerous, even on an autococker with recock pressure cranked up, and weighted spring-guide added to the back of the hammer to physically smack into the thin-walled IVG.
