i've used the lighter trick, warm water, stretching the hose with an awl, pliers of all shapes and sizes etc etc etc...

once you have it down though, fingers with a little finesse works fine. the lighter method works great, dont hold the hose directly in the flam for any period of time, just sort of wave it over a few times and press effectively does the same thing as warm water...but without the 2min microwave wait time...

if you have doubts, tophats will hold flame heated hose on perfectly well.

pliers is my next favorite alternative, for those hard to reach areas, some nimble needlenose will work just fine
