Ram over travel on a DITS?

So I was pretty excited to fix up a DITS and being it to the field. It had been a solid decade since I shot my old red fade Diadem. It wouldn't feed, though, except every couple shots.

I noticed the bolt was dragging, and then I noticed the bolt pin had been slamming into the front of the slot, and had dented the metal. The mushroomed edge was causing my problems.

A needle file fixed the issue, but I don't want to have it again later. The travel on the ram is well over an inch... Anyone successfully shorten the stroke to keep this from happening? Maybe by shimming the spring? Or is the better option putting a cushion on the perimeter of the hammer face, so it bounces off the valve?

As an aside, I was surprised to see a V-seal on the ram, instead of a traditional o-ring. I'll probably just use a quad ring if I ever need to replace it.

Oring inside the ram to act as a bumper?

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them.”

What's round and thin and can go under a spring? Never thought of an Oring... Might have to mic the parts to see what section, then grab some in FKM 75 or something tough like that.

Thanks for reminding me what sane people use to fix paintball guns!
