Wierd velocity issues..

OK so I am tweaking a classic mag valve and it has developed a strange problem..

I back out the velocity adjusted till the gun does not fire..

Start cranking it in and get her shooting...

Start sneaking up on the desired velocity..

240's

250's

260's

270's and then ...

Go about a a 1/16 of a turn more and it's in the 350's... and it still has plenty of travel left on the velocity adjuster..

No air leakes at the higher velocity and all parts appear stock AGD..

Whats going on here?

Thanks
Matt

The spring pack in the reg is probably upside down. The large washer side goes toward the piston, so that the center rod of the stack can fit in the piston cavity. Otherwise, the adjuster can start pushing on the rod and just hold the reg open.

Did you repeat the test from the beginning, and did you complete rebuild the valve before you started?

I did swap the spring pack out of a known working valve...same issues... so I think we can eliminate that..I did the same test as decribed in my original post.

Did not do a rebuild as this valve was working just fine till today..

This one has me puzzeled..

did you clean the inside bore of the reg? Perhaps it is hanging on some buildup.

Paint to barrel match is fairly decent..

I just don't get the fact its going from 270's to 350's in about a 1/16 of a turn on the VA...

somethings going on in a wierd way..I suppose I will just have to strip it completely down unless someone comes up with something else.

I wonder if an o-ring in the on/off isn't quite seating right, and allowing more pressure into the chamber. That doesn't explain why it would only do it there at that setting, though.
