Anti-chop lvl...7?!

So I am part of an old school paintball FB group and someone mentioned about how the young kids thought the old guns were so cool until they found out they were gonna break down and chop paint. Then some cat from the UK posted a video where he showed a lvl 7 bolt acting just like a lvl 10, where it vents the air. He posted a YouTube video and explained on FB that he drilled a hole in the back of the lvl 7 bolt 3.5mm wide and 22mm deep. Anyone ever heard of this?! Why isn’t this a common mod if it works?

you have the story a bit backwards. He found the bolt in a mag he picked up in the UK. The mag was modded by John Sosta who also did the promag mods. I havn't come across one of these yet but i think there is much more adjustment in the level 10 than in the modded bolt. I also think while it may act as a level 10 it may still be much harder than the standard level 10.

Interested. I've heard about this also.

Here's a video.

The early Automags used springs in the power tube instead of spacers.
The level 10 bolt pilot is hollow and cross drilled before it is brazed into the outer bolt tube.
Just drilling a hole from the rear on an assembled bolt would do nothing but make it slightly lighter.

So what is making the mag function like it is in the video? Is it just a level 10 in a classic valve or what?

It's a Level 7 bolt modified to act like a Level 10. It would appear that the hole drilled into the bottom of the bolt is acting as a relief vent in the event a ball is pinched in the breech (see the gap in the bolt shown in the Level 10 animation).

I think the difference being the stem length. It looks like where it begins to vent in the animation is where the end of the level 7 bolt is. since the oring and spacer locations are a bit different.
