what paintballs are right for me?

I have a somewhat unique situation. I play 100% woodsball with a group of friends. There are about twenty of us who play a few times a year in the woods behind a local church, and to keep things interesting (and cheaper), weíve instituted two ďhouse rules.Ē

1. All hits count (the paintballs donít need to break).
2. Only one hopper of paint is allowed per game.

Because of these rules, weíve always been on the lookout for cheaper paint that is very round/accurate and has a thick shell (since we donít need it to break on impact). Also, since we often only play three or four times a year, we need paint that has a good shelf life.

For a long while, we were buying (and loving) bronze X-balls, and then bronze DXS when that whole switch happened, but then about two years ago, Bronze DXS became very hard to find, and the price jumped almost 50%, so we started looking for an alternative. Needless to say, it hasnít gone well.

We tried Evil paint and Marbilizers, which both had a good shelf life and shot very straight, but because theyíre so brittle, they broke a lot in the Tippmanns that 75% of my friends have. And theyíre very pricey, which I personally donít mind, but the other guys complain a lot about that.

Next, we tried Nelson Anarchy, which seemed great at first. After six months between games, thoughÖ. not so much. Maybe we just got a bad batch, but we ended up tossing a lot of that paint because it didnít stay well enough.

Most recently, we tried APX Argo pro, which is cheap and stores ok, and it has a hard shell, but even the brand new stuff had dimples and didnít shoot very straight.

Weíve tried the local paint from Walmart and Dicks, but thatís VERY hit and missÖ and more often itís more misses that hits.

So, Iím pretty frustrated and sick of bouncing around and experimenting, so Iím hoping someone here has a perfect paint to recommend. As a sum-up, here are the requirements Iím looking for:

1. Accurate (no dimples or raised seams)
2. Cheap (less than $50/case)
3. Hard shell (so it doesnít break in the blowbacks we mostly use)
4. Good shelf life (because we often go for months between games)

I have had really good luck with Valken stuff recently. Both the Redemption (50.00-55.00 a case) and Infinity (35.00-40.00 a case). They run small for those who use ball sizers or freak kits I have used .684, .682, or .679. Solid shell, they say round for several months and they don't add oil to their bags. They put a small anti-moisture pack in each bag, brilliant really! So far I have enjoyed them minus the smaller ball sizes.

I would highly recommend Nelson Nelsplat if you can get it
runs 45/case, you can get it in almost any color, fairly large size (around .689) and it's meant for rec play, so you'll have SOME break on branches, etc, but not in your gun

ok so it is my state the obvious day today..

How are you storing your paint balls?
if you can keep them in a dry storage environment with limited temp fluctuations preferably in an air tight container, they will keep longer
Also remember to rotate the bags every week or so to prevent flat spots

You can have great paint but if you dont look after it it doesnt last.

You may already be doing this but it never hurts to make sure

Valken Graffiti, medium price and shell strength. Nice and round.

I do store my paintballs correctly. Thanks for making sure. I wish I could say the same for my teammates, though. Now that you mention it, I remember that the guy who had to toss all his Anarchy paint did so because he left the leftovers in the trunk of his car for the entire summer.

Thanks for the other replies guys. I'll have to try out some Valken paint. And maybe Nelson too.

Speaking of which, does anyone know a website that sells BOTH Nelson and Valken paint? I've checked ansgear, actionvillage, zephyr, shop4paintball... all the websites I've used before in the past. No luck.

how much paint do you need?
more than 3 cases it's almost always cheaper to go direct to the manufacturer
