ramrod barrel

I have always wanted a ramrod barrel. I've read that they are pretty crappy but I thought they looked cool and I was able to pick one up locally for a pretty good price.

I've seen some that were freak bored and I want your imputed before I move forward with it.

Will getting it freaked be worth it? Will it be any more accurate?

It seems to me any barrel with control bore inserts would be similar. Isn't the the front half of those barrels larger bore so would act similar to the open end of the ramrod?

A freak is roughly 5inches is there enough space for one before the crazy barrel Shenanigans start? Also please post a shooting video. Slow motion edit for extra points

There is only about 4 1/4" but I have seen someone use a thread adapter to give a large enough space to use an insert.

I personally wouldn't do it only because they are scarce and can command a decent chunk of change to the right buyers. Cool piece of paintball history.

Curiously, what was your "pretty good price" if you dont mind sharing? A ballpark price would suffice also. I think Ty of Brass Monkey Customs made a custom brass ramrod recently. You could technically have freak inserts cut down and the back bored accordingly as well. Lots of options, many can be expensive.

** edit ** I see you found Ty's build already

Due to the concerns voiced earlier, I would recommend a python or ifit kit (same thing). They have an extended adaptor to put the sizers in and have no impact on the original barrels condition. Just my $.02 if you are shooting the barrel with a closed bolt gun. If its open bolt I would just shoot it as is. It is more than likely over bored and let's face it, you aren't using that barrel for efficiency's sake.

It's spyder threaded and I picked it up for $20 off craigslist.
I figured I could get a spyder to cocker adapter and bore both it and the barrel for inserts.

In truth I was also hoping someone could tell me; if it has inserts wouldn't it shoot as well and any other barrel with inserts just louder?

I thought most people hated on it because it is like a 3" barrel. Isn't that what the if it and python kits are?

At the end of the day you're not using it for performance, so why bother trying to improve it? I'd just keep it as a novelty or use it with one of those inception barrel backs and run freak inserts that way.

If you want to use it, get an adapter with sizers. Don't get an adapter and then bore it because then you reduce the options for both platforms you can use it on and buyers when you go to sell it.

This is excellent advice
