Sorry, I kind of went around the initial question. I was speaking of the complete bore drop bolt and hammer set up. Many hammers will work but I am not sure on specifics for each. I can say that many earlier Bushmasters came with the stock Line SI bolt with stock Nelspot 007 hammers so that is probably the first hammer I would try. It will not be anti kink (hammer going into bolt) but it should function correctly with the stock sear and the Line SI frame/trigger.

I don't know if the NW hammers will work but I will try and check compatibility today (they likely won't work though).

Well I've been playing around with some different parts I've got in my box, and I currently have the CMI Thunderpig stainless hammer in there with the Bushmaster's sear, and that seems to be cycling just fine. I wanted to try testing it with paint for velocity but my Radarchron has a dead battery again.

The Empire Trracer hammer seemed to work OK, but valve popping during cocking was even worse than with the stock hammer. The CMI hammer is a little shorter and isn't depressing the powertube on cycling, so that may be the winner for now. I'm guessing it weighs three times what the stock hammer does.

Ok, with the stainless hammer, slightly larger paint, and a bunch of spring work, the best I can manage consistently is about 235-245 fps, with one errant shot up to 278.
That's an improvement, and probably usable, not what I was looking for. I suppose a different powertube and/or freak boring are the only possible solutions at this point.

To that end, anyone willing to take some measurements for me?

A bigger PT or one with more ports should fix your problem, especially if you are that close. A size 5 or 6.

So close... but so far... I hope you get there!

Reading through this thread, Dan mentioned tank pressure. What is your tank currently outputting?

The sweet spot for Nelson valves seems to be in the 900 to 950 psi range, with compressed air. If you can increase the output 100 psi, you might get more favorable results.

Possibly. I have one tank that outputs at 1100psi and it didn't provide better results.

Again, this is the first time I've ever had such problems getting a Nelson into the desired range.

110 psi will be too high, and cause the valve dwell to be too short to allow enough gas to pass through the valve.

All of the Bushmasters I have owned used the aluminium hammer, and a #6 power tube, and I have not had issues with reaching 300 fps, even with the .690+ bore. I think changing to a #6 power tube will be a step in the right direction.

So I'm needing to go to a tube with a wider ID, probably, right?

Are the powertube numbers standardized? Because looking through Bacci's catalogue I'm noticing that there are tubes marked with a "#4" that are considerably wider in ID than those marked with a 6.

Also, could I potentially see an increase by enlarging the ports on an existing tube?

If I remember correctly, the tube in there right now is a Wintec #4 that my digital caliper said is slightly wider inside than the SI #4 that came with the gun.
