Girthier pin is only part of the LPK as far as I know.
I assume it's to reduce the blowback so the sear reliably catches the hammer with the lighter drive spring. Maintain a Tippmann feng shui balance, ya know?

Here's some pictures of my modified valve. Not 100% applicable to this discussion since it's from an A5, and a rather early A5 at that. Looking at my picture folders it seems I modified this valve way back in 04. Heck, I had mine working months before Tippmann released their LP kit.
I have it next to an unmodified A5 valve, but one from much later.
Unmodified on the left, modified on the right. Since mine was a very early valve it only had two air channels. I made the channels a little deeper, and widened them as much as possible.

Not sure how I'd do it with a modern 4 channel valve. Probably just grind down the rib between the two side channels.
