Just a random safety thought.

So I just got certified as a lifeguard with cpr and title 22 first aid.

Iím assuming most forelegs donít have some one with the cpr/ first aid certification.
But why not and do you think fields should?

I think there should be. Is there one at most fields? Probably not.

Where it would be nice in a perfect world for this to happen, I think a lot of fields are so close to the profit/loss edge now that something like this might close their doors.

In what way?

I mean my class was $80 with a 35 certification fee at the end. With financial aid I paid just the 35
That was with the lifegaurding certification.

I know there are i day cpr and first aid classes that are around the same price.

There used to be a refereeing organization NAPRA [North American Paintball Referee Association] and to be a NAPRA ref you needed to be at the minimum CPR certified and First Responder was recommended and take an exam/board. It was a good organization that was firstly concerned about player/field safety. I still have my patches and paperwork for NAPRA around here somewhere. Many of the field owners in the SE used having NAPRA refs as negotiating points on their insurance rates back then.

In the way that you are proposing to add even more cost to the price of operation. I know of at least two local fields who don't even pay ref's any more, because they can't afford to...and they are going to pay a CPR certified "first responder" on top of that? They would shut down rather than do it.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea and would be tremendous for the safety thing...not that anyone has EVER needed anything like this at any field I have been in attendance at...but it would be good for that warm fuzzy for folks that were interested in that safety aspect.

will a once every 2 years 80+35= for a grand total of 115 really put a field out of business?

That may not, but a ref with CPR training may (rightfully I think) expect to be paid more. They now have a desirable skill and certification the field can advertise to their advantage.

That said, I do think it is a good idea.

Yup, it really comes down to the business model and market participation. I know fields that pay their refs [currrently], promote the same concepts of NAPRA in the past for qualifications and still are successful.
