Leland 12g neck style

Hey folks,

Not sure if I'm losing my mind, but I just received an order of 450 Lelands from Red Rock. I looked at the 12ies inside and they all appear to have a 'cap' on the neck like the Crosman 12ies. (See below for picture)

[

The top 12g is the 'Leland' (see the cap or rim around the neck) I just received in the mail. The bottom is what I thought they looked like before (though the one pictured on bottom is Valken).

Now, I threw out all my old used ones, so I have no reference--but I could've sworn my prior box had no cap around the neck.

Anyway, would appreciate some insight here. Want to make sure I received legit Lelands and not a knock-off.

Thanks,
Brian

All of mine look like the one on the bottom. I did same as you some time back and got a case of 450, so it's been a while since I ordered some. Maybe call them factory and see if they have changed the design of the way they make them?

Hope that helps. Please keep us posted.

Here is the number for Leland. (908) 668-1008. They make them in Japan but package them in New Jersey.

Do you guys think I should go through the distributor (Red Rock) or straight to Leland?

I would contact red rock first and see what they say.

Purchased directly from Leland 6 or so months ago and got these:

Ugh. Yeah. They don’t have the Leland stamp on them either. Looks like I’ll have to call...

That’s a MOSA 12ie. Still good grade and 10/10.

A few things. I’m sure others can chime in. For starters: cleanliness—no oil inside the 12g like some brands—food grade; fill consistency—few, if any duds; size—they’re all a consistent and uniform length.

And the neck shape (hole) under the cap is consistently centered. With a nelson style pierce pin, an off-center passage kicks the neck to the side and prevents it from sealing. The more you tighten, the leaks stays the same or worse.

With simple cam-lock drop-out changers, you really need that length consistency. Some 12gs can even be too short for a CCI bucket changer. The AGD micro-CA can handle most of these problems. The ICD changer handles length but not a badly off center neck (a less common problem anyway). PTX cam-locks don't handle any of these problems well (buy good 12gs!).

When you buy them in bulk, the price isn't much different from a small box of "cheap" ones from a sporting goods store.

Fill weight
Fill content
Length consistency
Neck shape

***

I say all of that because I probably would have had more fun with 12gs a long time ago if I had known there was a difference.
