I posted earlier but after reading some more of this I think another post is in order. Mags are great, for older guys. Unless you go ULE they are going to be heavy for a kid. By the time the hopper, gun and tank are added way too much wait for a day of playing. Go with a blowback. As for starting on pumps definitely a plus. Both of my kids started with pumps. Their first year of paintball was with a pump when all their buddies had semi's and the fields we visited all carried rental semi's. It taught some very good lesson's. Both kids understand fully about marker's now. They appreciate the fact they have to move instead of relying on 13 bps to hold someone down. My oldest will sprint off to the side now and come up behind you quicker than you could believe because he started on a pump. Also to add to this fact he usually will have some paint leftover after a game in his VL200. I honestly believe starting on a pump can be a good thing for the younger guys.

No way, look. Get him the heaviest gun possible. You know, they say if you lift a calf once a day from the day it is born, you can pick it up when full grown. Get 'im something really heavy and then in a couple years he'll be a monster.

No really, I have to like his chances with a ULE classic mag with a revvy and maybe 45/45. But honestly, give him a pump and he could be deadly with a little experience.

Screw HPA...give him a 9oz. Plenty of shots and if you give him the right gun it won't know the difference. Procarbine with a 9oz and Sportshot would be deadly.
