Classic Intimidator (Gen 1) Grip Hex Screw Size, Maybe Stripped

Howdy.

I have a classic Intimidator for sale, and a buyer asked if I could put a battery in it to see if it powers up (totally rational request). In order to put in a new battery I need to remove the grip covers, which are secured by hex screws.

I have both metric and imperial hex keys, and nothing fits the screws correctly: 1.5mm is too small/loose, 2mm is too big, and 5/64 is too big as well. Did Bob Long use some insane size? Did me of 15 years ago do something really stupid that me today is regretting?

And if worse comes to worst and some of these are stripped, how do I get them out? I have a kit for removing stripped screws, but it's pretty destructive and I don't know that it'd work for such small screws...

Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

There's nothing metric on that gun, put your metric tools away. That's how you to this point.

Tried 1/16"?

It probably is how I got where I am now. :-)

I'll go look for a 1/16", if not at home, at Homer Depot.

Thanks!

If the screws are stripped, you can try getting a star-shaped Allen key set (sorry, don't know the actual name for them), like the bottom row in this picture.

The star-shaped bits are slightly tapered, so they fit tighter and often work even with stripped screws.

Excellent idea.

I believe those are called Torx bits. I used a TR7, tapped it gently in with a tack hammer, and the screw came right out.

Thank you much!

I'll get a 1/16" for the rest of them. ;-)
