I got my Illusion today. The declared value was $250 and I paid $32 in taxes and a $5 handling fee. No duty, etc. It was shipped USPS Flat Rate Box, priority air mail. 5 business days to get from Las Vegas to Barrie Ontario. Hope this helps you out!

Was the actual purchased value declared on it? If not you were taking a risk. If they decide to open it, they get to decide the value of it. IE " that looks like $1000 worth of stuff". Pay the duties and fees before you can have it and there is not a damn thing you can do about it.

This is from personal experience, I worked with some customs people opening shipments one summer. They just estimate what they figure its worth and you get to pay the bill for that amount.

If it was the right amount and the fairy godmother department got involved then, sweeeeeet!

From my experience, USPS/CanPost doesn't inspect every package. Once in a while they get delivered without requiring taxes.

Private Carriers have charged me 100% of the time.

The brokeage tax is only after a declared value of over 200$. So when i buy markers, i make sure the seller values and insures the items for 170$. I have never paid duty on those markers, and i have bought 15 in the last 5 months.

Personally, i make sure the seller ships USPS with 170$ declared value. I also ask for a scanned copy of the shipping receipt.

The only time i paid duties was with a 350$ marker.

Or this could happen, and you're totally screwed (I declared and insured properly):

It is NOT worth it, use USPS, pay the tax and insure for full value.
