Shipping from U.S. to here

heya. I'm getting a marker shipped from the states to northeast alberta.
The guy wants to use fedex because his dad works there and can get a discount or something like that. Sounds good whatever.
My problem is fedex doesn't ship to PO boxes, (i live in a rural area). Does canada post take over once it crosses the border or how does that work? Should i get him to ship via a different service or is there a way around it?
Thanks for the help.

you will get nailed for brokerage fees ( 20+ depending on value) plus GST on the value of the item. USPS/Canada Post will only cost you 5 plus GST. I would also imagine that it will cost a lot moe to use fedex international than USPS in the first place.

Thanks for the advice but i'm more concerned with the fact that they won't deliver to a PO box.
Seems like the solution will be to get him to ship via USPS. any other thoughts?

Get it shipped to someone elses house.

-or-

Years ago I had things come in via UPS and they were accepted at the local post office, since I was living in the country. I got a note from canada post that I could pick it up on a given day at the local post office.

Check fedex's website for rural delivery info in canada, it should say what they do.

Ive had that problem before since i live on a rural route just call fedex and tell them what road you live on and tell them your fire number. they should deliver it right to your door.

Pass on the deal if he wont use USPS. Fedex is horrible. Even if it arrives with no apparent extra money for duty/taxes, Fedex will surprise you with a huge invoice a few weeks later. Bastards.

Seriously, you will get hit with huge brokerage fees if you use a private carrier like FedEx/UPS.
