US ebay sales to Canada?

I finally snapped! Ebay's "policies" on the transfer of paintball equipment between Canada and the US have precluded me from bidding on one too many items... Apparently a number of other queries to ebay have gone un-answered so I thought that I'd inject my own line of questioning:

Message sent to ebay's Listing Policies team this afternoon:

quote

Message: To: whom it may concern

From: a Canadian bidder/purchaser

Let me begin by expressing my displeasure with your policies regarding the sale of paintball equipment - specifically from US vendors to Canadian purchasers.

I have purchased paintball equipment from a number of vendors outside of the ebay environment - both private and retail - and have never been subject to such discrimination.

Ebay's current policies can only serve to hurt bidders and vendors on both sides of the world's longest undefended, read "friendly", border.

While I can understand the need to respect firearms regulations in both nations, it hardly seems fair to lump paintball into the same category as lethal weapons. As I understand it, there is no legal impediment to the transfer of paintball products across the US/Canada border.

I would like to receive a clear explanation of how this policy applies with respect to international trade regulations between the United States and Canada.

I have included, below, the transcript of the online chat session asking the same question.

I am eagerly awaiting your reply.

end quote.

Has anyone else missed out on opportunities because of this?

Thanks, I appreciate that... I just don't think that ebay's "policies" have kept up with the times - or they are far too impressionable and have misinterpreted Canadian firearms regulations...

It's weird. Ebay.com doesn't like paintball equipment to be bid upon by Canadians YET ebay.ca is opposite and has no issue with paintball equipment being sent to the US. Makes no sense, really. Hasn't stopped me from bidding on stuff. I just make sure that the seller will ship to Canada.

I received a reply from ebay today:

quote

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to your displeasure with some of
our regulations concerning paintball equipment.

To begin let me just say that I can certainly understand how a situation
such as this can be frustrating, and that your tone and conduct in your
correspondence with us has been admirable and much appreciated.

I completely understand that you may not agree with eBay's decision to
maintain these guidelines. With that in mind, if you would like to see a
change that you feel will better our site, please submit your feelings
at the following URL:

We really do value your membership in our community and your feedback is
extremely important. Although you may not see immediate policy change as
a result of your email, the appropriate personnel will be made aware of
your position on this issue, and your voice will be heard.

Thank you for your time.

end quote

I appreciate that there many ways to get around this "policy", and I have used a number of them to get items that I want/need. The issue at stake here is, in my humble opinion, strictly one of applying common sense...
