installing new pump handle on S6.5

I just got a new ezgrip and pump plate to replace the old style pump handle on my S6.5. I wanted to find out if there are any "Gotchas" on changing them out. Is there a certain depth that I want to screw the rod in, and am I going to want to use Red Loctite when installing? How long does it take for that stuff to set up?

Thanks!

Broch,

If the pump handle does not come with a pump arm - you need to take the old one off and put it on the new one.

Taking the old one off can be a trick - so give us more information - does the new pump handle have a pump arm already installed?

There is no pump arm on the new handle. I just ordered this from CCM, it is just the EZ handle and a plate.

Thanks TF!

Okay - so - you need to get the old pump handle off.

You need to take off the delrin portion of the pump handle - and then heat up the junction between the handle and the rod.

THen you need to, without scarring, get the pump rod off.

Do you have a vice? If so - do you have leather or soft jaws?

No vice, but I do have vice grips. I have some leather that I can use to protect the pieces. I can always go to the local Harbor Freight and pick up a bench vice.

I don't think you will need a bench vice - but it can make it easier.

1) Wrap cocking rod in quite a few wraps of duct tape.
2) Get leather and vice grips ready and grab the rod as tightly as you can without marring the rod.
3) Use a lighter to warm up the aluminum portion that the rod screws into. You don't need it super warm - but enough to loosen the loc-tite.
4) Use a leather glove to turn the pump handle without bending the rod.

If it doesn't work right away - let it cool and repeat - usually a few times of this will get it.

When reinstalling - the trickiest part is getting the pump arm on the pump so that the AT lug is perpendicular to the body. Don't use loc tite at first and just get the look and feel right. Then - when ready - put a small dab of red loctite on the screws for the pump arm and install. Put the back block on and put the bolt in. Leaving the AT cam hanging loose. Lay the marker down flat on a table and ensure that the AT lug is perpendicular to the body.

Give it 15 minutes or so to dry and assemble the AT Cam and Arm. Make sure everything is straight - and then let it dry for an hour or so - you should be good to go.

It isn't tough - it is just that you are trying to get a small round object out of loctite without marring it.
