My Viking was hard anno'd. It's a little thicker leading to it being more resistant to idiot marks and scratches.
Answer from a quick Google search on the difference between the 2 types of anno:

"A. Hi Gary. In anodizing, DC electricity converts the aluminum metal on the surface of the part to non-conductive aluminum oxide; simultaneously the acid in the electrolyte is dissolving the coating. The process is thus self-limiting -- because the oxide impedes current flow and when it reaches a certain thickness the current flow cannot build a coating any faster than the acid dissolves it.
So, in simplest terms, hard anodizing involves a higher voltage rectifier and lower temperatures (of about 28 °F rather than 68 °F) which allows more current to flow for a heavier build, while reducing the acid attack on the coating.
They both employ sulfuric acid of about 10 to 12 percent concentration by volume.
There can be proprietary extra ingredients that are added and which purportedly build a better coating or allow the hard coat process to operate at higher temperatures. Generally hardcoat is considered to be 0.002" thick whereas "regular" anodizing would usually be between a tenth and a third of that."

I don't remember how many CCM did up but I believe it was less than 10 or 12 at most.

ah yes that makes perfect sense but also like barrels there is a perfect fit for every ball and if you have the right fit then why change it

i know there are 2 extended tube hard annos out there.

the main issue why they stopped was for cosmetic reasons, there was too much finish and saturation variations per part. so though it could all be from the same alu, and done at the same time, the parts would vary a decent bit from one another in regard to the color

There was a big argument on a Facebook group about hard anno CCM pumps and if they were actually rare or not.

ahh, id say they are, its not like every marker was a hard anno, it was something you had to ask for.. i don't think they need to command a premium like the brindle or some of the camo ones though, but i don't see anything wrong with asking for an extra $50 for one

I know of at least 3-4. I owned one then sold it and regretted it. I then bought another from Bill a few years later with a center and a left feed top tube. Have seen a couple in the wild. I am sure there has to be more.
