mainly aesthetics. It may have some disassembly value. Just a twist on an earlier product really. Big advantage is you don't lose your body if the internal threads get messed up. I have not seen this in the field only when machining the deep threads sometimes a chip will ruin the internal threads.
Personally, I like the looks, the short reg (longer reg bottom will also fit) , reg top integrated with the asa (my favorite) I wanted to do this to the T2 asa for a long time.
We have the same system on our SSR,SR1 and M40 rifle line. I find assembly of this style is quite easy to do.
