I've always lusted after but could never afford the Desert Duck, Redux, the Duck Slide and many of the other custom made box guns shown here. I'm starting to finally build my own slide and have a question to all those who have been fortunate enough to have owned, shot and even built them. I've seen these where the feed tube was stationary and attached to the body. I have also seen the feed attached to the slide and move with the slide. So what is your preference and why? I would like to know the pros and cons of both designs. ![]() |

You want a stationary tube. Putting it on the slide only opens the opportunity for pinches and jams. Mount the tube to the breech, then clearance the slide so that it can move around the feed.

I have both and like both. The Box gun is the best of both worlds or at least thats my opinion. It gives the look you want but not the potential for pinches. But with my Duck Slide after you get used to it you never have a problem. I hear there are Duck slides in stock right now. Center feed ones. People who pick them up and never really get an understanding for how they truly work tend to struggle with the design. Feyd...........
