Custom Raincover: Bit of a side project

In the midst of my vacation I have about a million projects going on right now. This is just another one I have been talking over with/thinking through for a while now. With the help of Ty, here is "Rev0". Rev1 is pictured further down.

Right now I've still got a few things to work out, what to use as a casing (thinking maybe carbon fiber, although the prototype will be sch. 40 PVC). Also, what sort of foam to use, and how best to get it to stay, if anyone has any suggestions on 1/2" thick open cell foam, I am all ears. And lastly a few more kinks with the o-ring/outer shell design and mating to barrel. Hopefully early January I will have a few to be able to tested, possibly sending them out to others as I currently don't have anything to test them on. I am up for any criticism, or feedback you may have.

Oh, and I also tested this out last night:

Well when you are considering rain it's important to consider errmm "droplength"... not just diffusion of rain. In my testing I found that what was true with real raincovers, was not effective for paintball. The TM15 body does a really good job of covering from the rain, it uses a series of expansion chambers to elongate the rain and barrel porting in each section.
What end is the front of your raincovers? Just curious what direction the serrations face..

sponges work well if you can't find the foam you want.

well, not the first time someone on here dabbled in paintball silencers. the old taso silencers i have use foam tubing between the inner and outer pieces; it stays just fine.

I remember a discussion about how the FLASC fake suppressor has holes in the back, and while the person shooting the marker can hear the rain, his targets barely can. So based on this, it seems the air flow needs to be redirected from the front to the back.

Typhon: Yes, after discussion with Ty I believe we came to the conclusion we didn't need to act like a real steel raincover, as the paintball has zero "length" when compared to the bullet (round vs. extended cylinder). As for direction, the o-ring groove is the back, and muzzle end is the top portion. Hopefully the air goes around the paintball through the grooves and into the foam, who knows, but it's worth a shot. Plus printing/cad is pretty easy and something I can do in my spare time.

I am on vacation for the next few days so this project is on the back seat for a while, plus I would like to get a marker that I can test with eventually.
