Vm fal

My rendition of the FN FAL (was modeling after the Canadian C1A1), based off a VM I bought used off Kijiji for $60.00 with some other goodies. The project that is kind of finished... Definitely replacing that red macro line. Also going to be adding some sort of optic/picatinny rail to the dovetail (to make the height difference between the handguard and receiver appear less great. Will probably be changing the barrel too, just not sure if I'm going to go with a VM threaded one, or put a cocker adapter on it. It is sooooo close to working, but all I need is a hammer oring. The only thing is the fact that's it's 44.65 CAD plus 31.14 CAD for shipping for a full seal kit! That's pretty ridiculous imo. I might try some other misc. stbb hammer orings but I have no idea how well those will work. If you'd like more pictures or explanations on how things were done, just ask and I'd be happy to help.

I like the sights.
What kind of mask do you use with that setup?

I use a proto pro axis. There isn't really a rear sight to look through, and if there was it would probably be unusable. The stock is cut just low enough to look at the front sight directly. If you had something like an i4, or some other low profile mask, a rear sight might be more practical. Some sort of scope/reddot or other optic would probably be raised high enough on its own to be used without a riser.

New kind of useable rear sight. Took the sight off an air rifle of mine, looks pretty good. I bought a scope for the air rifle, and tried the scope on the VM. The taper on the rail is too great for me the scope mounts, works great on the rifle though.

This is gorgeous.

Dang it, now you have me wanting to actually do something with the VM in my basement.

All cedar furniture (just stuff that was lying around from when we redid our deck). It was stained walnut and then coated in a clear semi-gloss urathane. Any other questions, just ask.

I cut the stock and gave it all the coatings. After it was finished, the two back plugs and the body underneath were drilled and tapped for 10/32 screws(cut the heads off the screws, so it's only threaded rod). When you tap, make sure you go all the way into the hole for the top screw. Put some loctite on the screws and thread them in as far as possible, without interfering with the top screw. Put the stock on top of the screws, and give it a light tap with a mallet, so that the screws leave an imprint on the wood. Drill an appropriatly sized hole for all the screws on the imprints. For the top two screws, put appoxy on the top two screws, and in the top two holes. Slide the stock onto the screws all the way, and wait until the appoxy dries. Wipe off any excess appoxy. I would give you pictures, but I'm away, and will be until tomorrow. I'll try and get them you then.
