ID tube size for cocker threads.

Howdy, I want to add a cocker threaded top tube to a brass gun. If the cocker threads are 15/16, what ID does the tube need to be for me to cut threads into it?

I want to say a little over 0.875". I usually end up grabbing a barrel and measuring the outside diameter of the breech section and add .005" or .010". I also measure the tip of my barrel tap, since it all goes out the window when the tap won't start.

the major diameter is .880 for female threads so 1" is pretty much the minimum. you can try smaller but you will likely deform the outside cutting the threads, especially if you are trying tap it.

Is 1” in minimum OD? I’m looking for the ID of the tube.

Put the two together: 0.880" ID, and min. 1" OD if you are shopping for tube.

That leaves you about 0.034" thickness at the inside valleys of the thread. Large taps bring a lot of torque and side forces (when done by hand), as dukie was pointing out.

One last thing: Whats the ID for the bolt here at the right after the breech? Is that .690?

Measure the OD of a cocker bolt, then id suppose youd add between .002-.003". Just my guess, I no longer possess telescoping gages to measure mine.

I'm guessing the bolt measures .700"
