This was already covered twice on the same page as your post...

This thing is a runaway broken record.

How did you remove the anodizing? The only thing I can think of that would give me a smooth finish is sandblasting.

I was also thinking I could also hand sand it and finish it with some military paint we have here at work. Do you think anybody would laugh at mine painted navy grey? But we have black, too.

I'm going to paste what I wrote on UMS forums to save some time .

Be ready for some work, mine is not even 100% removed, but good enough to repaint or to reanodize.

I used heavy duty oven cleaner. Read the label and make sure it says not to use on aluminum and anodized surfaces. Be careful and use that stuff in well ventilated areas. Also be careful so it doesn't eat the aluminum.

I personally used Walmart Brand oven cleaner in a spray can. I would suggest you get something similar but in a bottle. Take an old contain or Ziplock back fill it up with the parts inside. And let them sit for 15 minutes, check them out and whip down any anodizing.

Do wear rubber gloves and glasses, that stuff is nasty, make sure it's ventilated, my lungs didn't like the spray can stuff at all.

I hope that no one minds, but this deal is on its last leg so I thought that I would save the page that is probably soon to disapear.
