Buying New - Worth it?

Hey all,

Recently i've been wanting a higher performance open class pump, and after reading TF's review on the Empire Sniper i've decided I want one. Now, the price after shipping and tax is pretty close to 500$ for me, which is a good chunk of money. For me (being a 14 year old kid) that represents a huge chunk of money i have invested in paintball. For 125$ cheaper, I could pick up a LNIB sniper on the B/S/T here. After going through an awful buying experince I told myself that my next marker would be new, but im not so sure now that i see the pricetag. It would also be my first NEW marker ever. I've owned about 10 so far, all used.

So my question: Is buying new worth it?

Do you have a local shop? They might just beat that price.

Reasons to buy new:
1. You get to be the first to scratch it up on the field.
2. Anything goes wrong you have a shop/field/company to call upon.
3. It actually helps the paintball industry and/or local store.

Used:
1. Cost

Thats what I've got for you

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever buy new, unless it is priced below/same as the used. The second you shoot it, it drops in price. Browse the forums and buy a used, but well treated gun. You should be able to get a very nice CCM shipped to you for right around $400 or less. If you don't care about name, you can get a great pump shipped to you around $300, just browse BST.

Supporting your local shop and/or a manufacturer you like is always nice.

CCM packs a lifetime warranty with their gun, valid only with those first owners who bought the gun brand new.

i have been playing paintball for about 13 years, and i have probably only ever bought 1 brand new marker, and it was a tippmann pro carbine.... it just isnt worth it to buy markers brand new in my opinion..

I mean, supporting a manufacturer is nice if you've got some extra cash lying around, but for someone on a budget, the fact is, buying used saves money. As to warranties? I've had many many CCM guns, never needed to use the warranty because they are so well made!

The only gun I bought brand new was the bob long protege. It was priced well below anything with similar results. It was only $600 straight from Bob himself with an autograph! I loved it, but then I saw Protege's going for $400 a couple months later, and I was annoyed. Technology changes, and when I want to upgrade, I don't want to keep shelling out additional money. I'd rather buy used for a good price (and a gun I know won't deflate in value too much).

Another benefit are that used guns are broken in well, and many of the issues they may have had from factory are fixed. Also if you are handy, you can find guns in leaking condition, toss a couple bucks into em, and get a working gun for a fraction of the price.

Obviously I'm talking from the standpoint of someone who wants to save cash. If you like your guns pristine, like knowing your guns 100%, like a warranty, and don't mind shelling out some extra dough, by all means.

Support your local shop if its within your radius. They tend to have a decent consignment section and offer something in terms of warranty. Another benefit of buying new from a shop is that most toss in lifetime labor free of cost as long as YOU own the marker. Hell some shops even work hand in hand some of the fields and offer free passes with a new marker purchase (CS Paintball in Anaheim comes to mind).

I would buy a new CCM, or phantom or a Dukie....or a Carter. I made the mistake of buying a brand new dye nt for $1600, and two months later a new one came out and devalued mine by half of what I paid...even though I hadn't even shot it lol. Ill never buy a new one again
