I figure the rear notch would be nice in case you end up pointing the marker down while stuffing in a round, keeping the bolt from sliding forward when both hands are otherwise occupied. Pointing down might not be the plan, but I often forget to account for my loading technique (and 12g) changes versus a particular bunker. I would probably forget to use the notch when I needed to, clawing the bolt open.
