What to wear under a kilt...

Other than my boots.

what do you guys wear in the form of undercarriage protection?

I've got a kilt, but I hesitate to wear my usual cotton undies. I'm thinking some kind of under armor shorts or something.

While I also go sans anything when not playing/paintballing - being able to slide, dive and otherwise play without fear, issue or arrest I usually wear some slide shorts preferably or some other type of compression "shorts/pants". If I am reffing rec meh - it is cooler both literally and figuratively to go as nature and the ancestors intended ... oh and it isn't just the Scots who wear cilts ...

TL;DR hole size controls how fast balls get spent

If you want to "do it right", you wear a long shirt. You will pull the rear tail of the shirt forward and the front tail of the shirt to the back. The shirt tails can be pinned in place or tucked up between a belt and the body.

For those of us who did the kilt thing for years, including public events with small children, tight shorts, like compression shorts, are your friend.

To protect ones jewels, you wear a two 100 round pod pack like a sporran. It works every well... My Brass Eagle pod pack and pods were my go to for years.

No true Scotsman? Anthing besides your wedding tackle would be a phallic fallacy?

some band members wear things under their kilts but the company that was guarding Buckingham palace last week was not. some kind of compression short and bug spray here in Ok just to keep the ticks out.
