Dang dude, people's opinions change. I wanted to hear what people thought about it now, not a month ago. Sports can increase and decline in popularity and opinion. I didn't want to know whether it was considered a sport 6 months ago, last week, or even yesterday. I wanted to start a discussion on whether or not it's a sport NOW.

Sometimes you have to speak the unspoken rules...

In our society "sports" are important, "games" are not. This varies with demographics, but between childhood and a certain point in adulthood this is very, very pronounced.

"Games" are played by, well, "kids". But "sports" are played by "athletes", and they are special. So special they get special perks. The star quarterback gets the hot cheerleader, "special" help with schoolwork, and is looked up to, while the best pokemon player gets looked down on. Spending thousands of dollars on hockey equipment is good, it means you're serious about the sport. Spending thousands of dollars on Nerf gear is, well, nerdy.

Now lets do a quick search on our original poster...

Ah here we go...
https://www.mcarterbrown.com/forums/...e-players.html

Our boy is an athlete, and judging by language isn't above 25, so right in the "sports are important" age group. If paintball is a sport, then it's worth spending time perfecting technique, spending thousands of dollars on gear, making a serious investment. If it's a game, well then that would be a waste of time.

Now past a certain age many people lose this concern. Sports become something you at most used to do and now just watch other people do. And those of a more nerdy persuasion always found sports in general rather pretentious. For these types of people a game and a sport are interchangeable. It's when it becomes something you do for a long time because you enjoy it that it moves up to the next level, it becomes a hobby. But then the unspoken rules rear the ugly head again. "Hobbies" aren't serous, if it was serious it would be a "profession". Even though a person may change their profession time and time again, and maintain the same hobby as a life long passion.

So yeah, society sucks.

I like this answer, society does suck. Although, it's scary how accurate that analysis of me was.

I didn't start this thread to validate whether or not it's worth playing paintball. I would have continued regardless of what everyone said about it. I enjoy it, and that's why I play sports. I honestly don't hold it very high in the sports book and agree with what many of the other posters thought about it; paintball is what you make of it. Whether you are practicing with a team 3 times a week, playing a tournament every two weeks or just out once every couple months, it's all about having fun.

Okay, I'm gonna stop before I start sounding too much like a soccer mom.

Fubarius has a habit of winning at forums.
If the internet can be won, does that make it a sport?

After all, fortnite is apparently a sport.
