Can you print TPU onto an existing part made from PLA and have the TPU release from the PLA?

I think freedummy would be a good resource for that question. His finger detents are multi-material if I remember correctly

Actually I am looking for making a "trapped nut" without actually trapping the nut.

Imagine this... You want a pattern on the top of the tube cap. You would need to modify the currently available model and create one which looks more like the injection molded ones which already exist.

Support involving TPU is tedious and annoying. So what if the model was setup to print the new tube cap model until the top of the walls, and a PLA/Nylon/PETG/whatever slug is inserted into the cap to support the top of the cap with the design on it.

Have I managed to confuse everyone?

Ty

Slightly confused, but that is probably because I just woke up and haven't fully booted up yet.

Haha, I'm pretty sure I see the concept.

TPU supports are definitely a hassle. You should try out the TPU over PLA supports and let us know how it goes

Ditto - I get excited watching the MCB mad scientists get excited and brainstorm things and then jump on the finished project if I can afford it.

I have a feeling my major delay will be the time and cost of making a mold for these things. Found a local injection molding place about half an hour away. Gonna make the cad drawing and court em in the next month or so.

Been trying to find time to make the cad, if someone wants to help me out here and possibly print out a prototype n send it over you will save me a ton of time. I have some initial measurements in a previous post.

I can compensate for time, materials n ship. Just callout here if you want to do it so we dont have 3 people doing it at the same time.

So what does the blow molding process look like, and what do you need help with?

I will have a bit of time on Tuesday and Wednesday to experiment with the tube cap project... This might, almost, warrant a new thread

Been looking at the injection molding process right now, they look like they use steel or high grade aluminium negative molds to create the item. Aluminum has a shorter wear life but I am still seeing uses in the 50k+ cycle range. Aluminum would be cheaper to mill, but still isn't cheap.

The peeps are going to need a 3D cad drawing (from my understanding) or pay for the service of them making. Still trying to find all my options so I can find the right option for us.
