Fill with epoxy mixed with brass dust. Don't burn it. Me, personally, I would mix up some Alumilite and mica powder, probably an ocean blue or brass mix, to fill the holes.

Also, I can't find any burl near me that isn't an arm and a leg. Where do you get yours?

I bought Burl Offcuts. So guys saw the nice parts out for bowls, and the store sells the scraps. I laminated three pieces for this build.

SUBSEQUENTLY I found nice burl on Ebay, for a reasonable amount. $50 for a nice piece, big enough for a nice pirate. Maple burl. Walnut burl = $1,000,000.00 per BF.

I'll throw up a pic. the pic is a lie. the stock doesn't survive up close scrutiny, and the gloss effect is gone. The burl has soaked up 8 coats of hand rubbed poly, like it was nothing. 8. coats.
