I have a few that fall into that category.... Mostly due to complexity.

I tried to use a pheonix....

I "collect" but all are used as much as I can. I have a taste for old school LAPCO pumps but none of them are wall hangers. My Grey Ghost is pretty much pristine and has seen the least amount of use but that being said I will still play a random walk on day with her. I'll loan out most everything I own/collect but I'm a little selective with my Grey Ghost and one of my Grey Spirits. If I loan those to you I like and trust you to use them but not abuse them.

I used to collect, but mainly for just trying new stuff & learning how to work on them. A home, wife & kids put a stop to that, lol. In that time I've come to dislike wallhangers. Plus the pb scene around here has been pretty much nonexistent since he '08 recession so there's not much need to learn how to work on newer stuff (nothing to fix for the locals). I'm down to 8 functional markers now.
I do miss it though.

Seriously, who does that??

Most of MCB I think. That is at least in terms of having markers you will use little to never, bought for sentimental value, the good deal on one long lusted after, or just curious about the operation of it. Then there's the loaners, backups and backup-backups.

My collector-with-a-purpose heroes are Riddler and A-Tach-One. They both had large, but mostly specific, collections of wall hanger quality markers. They both ended up backing off quite a bit, which was interesting in itself. More markers than they could play with, most that you wouldn't want to play with for fear of a scratch. I keep a pile of favorites; they had collections.

When I was younger (and poorer) I could not justify keeping guns I did not use.
At one point I was down to a single setup.

Now that I have the luxury I have more guns than I can use, though I specialize in breech drop nelsons and they are most often beat up user guns I've assembled from parts.

Part of the fun I've had in assembling the breech drop nelsons has been writing up notes on when and where I acquire parts and then my thoughts on their backyard performance.

I've downsized a little bit, but there are still markers in my collection that just I can't bring myself to let go of for one reason or another.

Sort of an interesting assortment.

Few impulses.
Few Evil.
Few FBM.
