Volume is Way up for all these guys and all that matters to their big contracts is speed so thats all they care about. On and off the trucks as soon as possible.

Not only can we buy everything online, but they ship every little item separately. Amazon forces you to combine "add-on" items with larger orders, then the items still get shipped from different places. I hope the "carbon footprint" kids count those delivery trips and packaging.

"Back in the day" when we had a dedicated UPS driver for our office, the boss would watch out the window for his new toys. It was fun to see how Murray would unload his truck for the whole 5-story building. We would judge his mood, load size, and schedule by the velocity and spread of the packages as they rolled, or flew, out of the back and onto the pavement.

I have a theory (perhaps foolish) that priority mail is better than slower rates, simply because it spends less time in the mail system.

Complain. It takes a bit to get a hold of a post master, but do it. Talk to your local paper. Bad Press is always a good way to get your local post master's attention. I was having an issue with all of my tracked packages bouncing back and forth between the main regional hub and a smaller hub that was the incorrect one for my addresses packages to go to. I went to both hubs and mentioned it, and got blown off. I left multiple messages with the local post master and never got a response. I wrote an editorial piece for the local paper that included photos of the rediculous tracking back and forth, and emailed it to the paper and the post master. I got a response from the post master about 30 minutes after pushing the "send" button.

It's ridiculous that insurance for packages is a necessity now of days. You can't trust the courriers to not destroy your package, yet you have to pay them to deliver them. If you put $1000 insurance on a package, it generally arrives in pristine shape though......

Might be fixable if you're careful.....use a wooden dowel of the correct diameter and hammer it into the barrel, might bend it back if done right

Someone had to have run that over. Makes me nervous shipping barrels like that now. Guess I'll start shipping them in a steel pipe. That won't send up any red flags at the post office I'm sure.

Keep in mind that a lot of the sorting process is fully automated and not touched my people. My dad did maintenance on the USPS sorting machines at the Orlando FL sorting center. Sometimes something just gets loaded wrong and gets damaged.

Is that from a mailing tube or just wrapped in paper and taped up?

Its a large paper bag cut down one one side and rolled up about 10+ times. Its stronger than most tubes you can purchase. I have shipped easily over 200+ barrels this way without a problem, well until now...
