As a carrier all I can say is proper packaging will help it get through the sorting machines, and the guys loading the pallets and trucks.

I use a fishing rod shipping tube cut down to size for barrels whenever possible. Have yet to have an issue.

Bix box home improvement stores like Home Depot and carpet stores sometimes have very heavy/thick cardboard tubes that were at the core of carpet rolls. They usually just toss them out and will often just give them to you.

They are so strong, you can literally stand on them without crushing. I cut them to length and then seal the ends for barrel shipment.
