I do mask mount, if you only have 1 camera it's typically a better option. If you do barrel only it basically looks at the ground for a lot of the game and you can't see what's happening for the overall picture

I've done 3d printed mounts, not happy. Over time they have broken on me. I don't have one yet but I'm planning on one of these next

Some people use 2 cameras, 1 mask and 1 barrel so you switch your edit between the two cameras depending on what's happening. I've never liked having something on my barrel though so I just use a mask mount

I recommend at least 1080 resolution and 60fps recording. That way you can zoom in and slow down a section of video if you want to and it's still smooth and the resolution doesn't get killed to harsh. Of course you can record over that but then, for most of your video if you are recording at 4k 120fps you are really not using about 75% of the data you are recording. Think about your audience as well, how many people are going to be watching it on a 4k screen? You can easily spend $75 on a 512g sd card just to be able to record about 75% junk for most of your video except for the 10 second portion you want to zoom in and play slow mo.

For your situation, is probably just do a screen protector for the camera lens. Even my $150 GoPro base model has held up just fine when taking a direct hit. The external cases I've had have all broken but the cameras inside have been just fine. That base model has a integrated body/case so I have never had anything in front of the camera lens

Fan of EMR
Handlebars because no one wants to watch someone else play paintball So, I'd use it for other activities.
That said, I'd still like to film it. I agree the barrel would be a lot of ground footage. What do you use to hook it up to the mask?
Ill look at some lens protectors. Thanks!

The best mask mount, imo, is the HK army metal mounts. They fit pretty much every mask, and they're metal so they're not going to break. I believe they come in different sizes as well. No idea what size I have but it's low enough profile that it doesn't add much if at all to my target profile.

I forget, but it's plastic, and 3d printed. I do not advise it. Get an aluminum one

Like @Trbo323 said, if you have only one camera, put it on your mask. If the vent pattern on top of your mask allows for it, try to offset the camera away from your dominant hand; this will help keep your loader from blocking your shots.

Dirt cheap aluminum mask mounts on eBay: https://tinyurl.com/vzay9po

I've experimented with a lot of different ways of mounting to a barrel without having to a) spring for a $30 paintball-specific part or b) using the handlebar mounts which are very prone to breaking and twisting off center. It's easy to find aluminum handlebar mounts, but all of them mount the camera perpindicular to where you need it to be facing OR are so narrow that they allow for the mount to flex on the barrel and go off target.

The best, most robust, and easiest solution I've been able to find is to use a combination of two cheap parts from eBay-
The bottom half of one of these: https://tinyurl.com/t9retuc
...with one of these: https://tinyurl.com/thd7oee

Recording in 1080/60 is usually best practice.
Don't record in 4K unless you really want to- the resulting files are huge and take forever to edit with most computers because of additional processor strain.
