^^^ This.

Think of your front hand as the rest/pivot point, and your trigger hand as just going along for the ride.

Some setups will balance the weight between the two.

As noted above, it's not for everyone and for some may take getting used to, but it can be a very nimble setup.

Just read this. Wonder if this guy could shed some more light on this. Either way DIGGIN the aesthetics of all these.
Pyrate Jim pretty much explains it. The only thing that makes me knowledgeable at all about the truly old school is having been listening to the much older guys on this forum long enough to have seen a thread like this one come up a handful of times.

Just throwing this out there, because I’ve seen this come up. I have only second hand info on any of this. But there are plenty of people who will dispute the story that “Hawaiian style “ is a take on “island style” there is lots of anecdotal evidence that these are two different names for the same thing that evolved separately.
Don’t tell B I said so not that he’s been around to tell...

No dog in this, just something I’ve heard since the first time I heard this discussion 15 years ago.

Glad you found this thread

Thanks everyone for shining some light on the subject. I may even edit this post to include the "Island Style" name in the title.

I have a book from '85 that has pics showing thermo tanks set up that way under the grip using hose clamps.

Awesome thanks for sharing!!!

Island is great for lighter setups. I have a trracer set up this way and it feels surprisingly natural.
