Are 08 Egos OK?

My buddy wants to upgrade his maker and is interested in an Ego.

There is an 08 LE ( acid wash anno) for sale locally.
I know Egos are well spoken of, but is 08 too old for parts availability?

The guy wants $500 for all his gear ( tank, masks, Halo, clothing, etc). A similar gun recently sold on Ebay for $356 so its not priced too badly. The seller thinks the gun alone is worth $500.

Anything we should look for if we go see it?

Should be able to get a 2010 or 2011 for that price I would think.

I think the gun is probably worth $250-$300. I wouldn't worry about parts.

One issue with those though is that if you screw in the top corner grips screws in too much you can damage the QEV diaphragm. Otherwise they're really solid and IMO super comfortable and fun to shoot.

you are paying too much, I picked up an ego 11 for $550 and for $600 you can have a new Etek 5.

Ego 08 goes for $250-$300 depending on condition. For reference, I just got one in great mechanical condition for $250 (Ano was worn from use).

The main thing you want to look for when buying an 08 ego is screw holes in the solenoid. Remove grips check that the previous owner did not put aftermarket grips on the ego and use to long of screws (you would be surprised how many people do this). A new noid is $125-$150 but they never go bad unless you put a screw threw them.

The more stock parts the maker has, the better. There is not any aftermarket parts for the 08 ego that are worth a dam. They often degrade performance and reliability.

If its got upgrades Plant Eclipse "Upgrades" are best.

LP valve is about the only one worth getting, sacrifices a lil efficiency for smoother operation.

QEV diaphragms replace them when you get the marker. If they havent been already.

You must use quality name brand batterys (I use lithium ion 9v they seem to work the best and last the longest)

I love my 08 Ego its the only marker I have kept when I got out of X-ball. It's the best bang for your buck IMO for a speedball marker.

Got this for $250 and sent it out for cerakote $125 and put new grips on $25. (For $400 I built a custom one)

They don't arbitrarily go bad, but I killed an 07 noid. It took hundreds of thousands of cycles to get to that point though.

08 Ego

I picked up my 08 up about 3 years ago and still love it she fires like a dream. But try to keep as much of it stock as possible because a lot of after market parts don't help assist in performance.

I have an 08 Ego for my primary electro as I rather not mess up my POW/MIA Geo3 and the ego rocks on the field. It is a players markers but it works well and was maintained by a PE tech prior to me getting to so it was in good hands. Just make sure the marker is maintained and not abused by the prior owner and you should be fine. The ONLY downfall of this marker is the weight since its an older ego and it is heavier then lets say the ego11 but its a fraction of a pound so you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. I was hearing that the ego8 has the gen1 board that is uncapped or capped at 30BPS which is the reason why I still have it...its well broken in!

Ego 08 is 906g

LV1 is 936g

So the same... 30g isent going to make a difference but and the 08 ego is actualy lighter.

For refrence it is the diffrence of about 4 nickles.

I did not know that. I know the Ego8 is a tank and PE for years has been trying to "lighten" the platform. Thanks for the knowledge.
